With all the attention to the drama surrounding the "event" has the thread changed your plans on visiting there?

from that other thread with all the crazy people --- sounds like the people involved are one step away from a gun battle, and it sounds like the area is over run with smugglers.

i would think twice before visiting

We have enjoyed many visits to Mark and Olivia's restaurant and always were rewarded with great service and food. They go out of their way to make friends and promote the "Baja lifestyle". One overnight stay at the Hotel five years ago. Although the room was adequate, there was no hot water and the front desk personnel was unfriendly. Thought it was a little over priced. Now, with the uproar....I must admit I may delay my next visit. I wonder if Mr Munoz realizes that he is effectively destroying his hotel traffic with all of his bluster and negative publicity.

Mark and Olivia have ALWAYS treated us with kindness and respect when we visit their place...i have rented one of their big houses there and it was immaculate and stocked with basics...i TRIED to stay at the hotel one time but the staff there was so rude and the place was so run down i walked out....i guess you know where my vote goes..

On my first trip to Baja many years ago I was looking for a place to camp with my pop up tent camper and had passed a lot of places with no luck. I was getting nervous and was overwhelmed by the whole new Baja experience, not to mention a very cranky wife and daughter. I hadn't found anyone who spoke English for 2 days and wanted to find something in the worse way. I saw a little bar on a beach with some palapas so I stopped in. There was a guy carrying cases of beer into the bar so I asked him who was in charge. He said "me" in English. I was so excited, an American!

It was Mike George (Olivia's ex) and he was building a few little houses on the beach and planning to expand the bar. I met a guy (my new best friend) on the beach named Stan Valentine and he ran an extension cord out to my camper so that I could run a box fan, it was hot as hell in July....what was I thinking?

There were only 3 houses on the beach and Mike said he wanted to build more houses and a hotel soon and he did.

We stayed in the hotel once when it was new and liked it but that was back when Olivia was running it. I met and fished with Roberto, Franca and their son Marco a couple of times (the people who financed the construction of the hotel). They were nice folks.

I've been there many times in the past 15 years and have always been treated great by Mark and Olivia. I always stop in for lunch or a beer when I'm passing through and sometimes spend the night.

I hate to hear about all the problems that they are having. I know that it has been a real drain on them emotionally and financially the past 6 or 7 years. I hope they can get the issues worked out soon.

As for me, I will stop in whenever I go by, just like always.....dt

Well, judging from this small poll I have to say that ramuma has been successful with his little project.

I was wondering all along how people would be affected by these accusations over the internet. Without providing any proof Mr. ramuma has repeated his accusation non stop for over 2 weeks now and it has had it's expected results. How will it affect Mark and Olivia's future business? Only time will tell. Here in the US they would be perfectly right in taking ramuma to court and suing ramuma for the loss in revenue that all of this will do to their business.

Never understood the reason anyone would go to that backwater area of Concepcion. Water always looks turbid down there, compared to places near the entrance.

I'm inclined to agree with you, Igor, but...is he wrong? Where does it say that he's wrong?

I think that the pole reflects, more than anything, that folks don't feel comfortable entering what is already a heated controversy. Many of us, traveling down Baja, are there for the quietude. Why would we knowingly get involved in this sort of controversy? It's fine for the locals, those nearby, and those who may have a close kinship with Mark & Olivia. But for many of us, it's not our battle. Nonetheless, I get the feeling that Mark & Olivia are the good guys here. Buena suerte!

He's accused the woman of drug trafficking. Yet he has no proof and no arrests have been made.

He's accused the woman of poaching turtles. Yet she is released 2 days later (he's unhappy).

People read stuff like this and tell themselves: "hmmmm.... where there is smoke there is fire. I'm staying away."

So without any real proof he has brought down a person publicly and their business as well. It was never a question of who was right or wrong for me. It was the damage done with accusations and inuendos. And ramuma knew what he was doing all along. That's why his concern with all the hits this thread was getting.

Is he right or wrong? My point is that you don't have to be right to damage someone. And let's face it, he is very motivated to find anything on these people.

I'm looking for 2 more catagories-

"I'll go to the restaurant but not the hotel"

-and-

"I'll go to the hotel but not the restaurant."

I didn't read every single post, but my inclination would be to visit the restaurant but not the hotel.

It just seemed like there was a whole lot of unsubstantiated accusations from the hotel guy against the restaurant people.

If things settled down, I'd go to the restaurant.
