Wow, so long Chuck!
Chuck Potter was the husband of the late Ginger Potter-McMahan (she was the daughter of Mike McMahan, Baja wall maps and book author).
Chuck operated 'Baja Source' a publisher and distributor of Baja books and maps on the peninsula. Chuck published Ginger's 4th edition of The Baja
Book (begun by Tom Miller) and Jimmy Smith's book 'The Grinning Gargoyle...'
In this photo from Mike McMahan's 1973 book ('There It Is: Baja!'), Mike is on the far right, Ginger is next to him and Chuck is behind Ginger...
Chuck was a guest at my Viva Baja #3 event in Feb., 2002... He donated some of the McMahan Baja wall maps as door prizes (Two were won, by bajaboy's
lady Tracy and Neal Johns):

i last saw Chuck when he was passing through Mulege and always visted his friends at the Serenidad palapa ville numero ocho.
i met him 1st when Jimmy Smith was in the VA hospital in La Jolla.
he was a true gentleman.
was he sick? he wasn't all that old yet.
sorry to hear. i'll pass it on to my friends who knew him better than I as they no longer live in baja.

I met Chuck and Ginger...I dont know,,,about 10 years ago in La Ribera...Ginger passed then and now Chuck....A neat guy and as others have said, a
Baja Legend.

When I think of Don Jimmy, visions of Chuck and Dave Deal are always there with him. Both Chuck and Dave were dear and loyal friends to my Dad, both
there for him right to the time when the Ol Man left us.
Now that the three of them have passed on, it is easy for me to imagine a heaven with them sitting around the table, drinking coffee, discussing
stuff. Really it was mostly Dad and Dave doing the talking and Chuck sitting there quitely listening smiling, slipping pieces of bacon to Chili dog.
I do thank the three of them for the memories they created for me, I will cherish them for the rest of my life. Bless You Chuck for your quite smile
and big hugs.

I had the opportunity to ride to San Diego and back with Chuck probably 11 years ago. While waiting for him at his San Diego house I looked through
photo albums of the old Baja trips that they had made with Ginger’s father. The photos were incredible. It was a real history lesson!
He was one of the good guys!

I had wondered why he stopped posting about a year ago. I guess, now I know. Yes, he seemed very knowledgable in matters of fishing. I'm sorry I never
got to meet him. Like Mike Humphreyville in that respect.

Nope... when Chuck and I were working together briefly on the Choral Pepper book project, that would have come up... I think he didn't like computers
very much. When he attended Viva Baja #3, that was in the Amigos de Baja era before Doug started the new Nomad site we use now... and Chuck was just
there as a Baja business 'Baja Source' and to have fun.

My friend Chuck
First met Chuck when he and Jimmy Smith stayed at my home in La Salina for the first Baja Authors thing at Keri's Place...about ten years ago.
Lot of wind taken from his sail when Ginger pasted and then very little left when Jimmy passed...Chuck treated him like a father...spent the last two
or three years visiting him in various hospitals...yes! he had health problems but mostly a broken heart.
Last two times in hospitals I didn't believe he would go home. Had planned to hook up with him this past
April in Cabo so he could met Jaime...didn't happen...and that makes me most sad.
He was just plain tired at heart & a very good man.
I miss our breakfasts together in El Cajon.
Jimmy and Chuck like father and son and I am sure they are already swapping stories up there.
My smidgen of a claim to fame is that I have had so many really good friends. By Bernie Swaim December 2007

Chuck and Chili
Jimmy and Lety Hass took Chili to their home after news of Chuck's death. That night, Chili went out looking for her amigo in La Ribera and, I hope,
found him when she was hit by a car. Somehow seems fitting, doesn't it? Can't you just see the two of them taking off on the ATV in some kind of
baja heaven?

Met Chuck and Ginger in November 1983 in the middle of my walk around the coast of Baja.
My second pair of boots were badly in need of repair. Couldn't find anyone to do the job in Guerrero Negro. Had the good fortune to run into Chuck and
Ginger. They drove me to the LA Bay junction where I was able to hitch into LA Bay. Patricio at the old Pemex did a great job re-attaching the soles
with glue and nails.
I think this picture was taken at the junction.
God bless you Chuck. And muchas gracias to you and Ginger for your kindness to a stranger over 25 years ago.
Sad about Chili, but I think she needed to be with you again. Fitting indeed!
