Flies in Abreojos

I've been to Abre several times and only once, last year late July, experienced the legendary plaguelike flies.

I'd like to hear your fly stories and see your pics. When do they typically arrive and how long do they stay?

We poured a little water on the ground

I f you look in the background, you will see why we didn't leave. That wave can connect all the way for a 200 yard wave. This is low tide. High tide was a speedy 3-5'.

Look at the number of flies in the bottom of the Modelo bottle.

You sure you didn't take the wrong fork in the road and end up at Punta Mosca?

fly point

Been to Abreojos numerous times and every time, fly city.
One year there were mosqitos out at night, big mosqitos, flying around attacking in the wind. And I mean wind!!!!!
Have also seen a ton of black widows hanging out in the shrub bushes around the main point........
We always called it "Fly Point"
kinda like scorpion, we call that skunk bay (lack of surf, usually).......
Heading to Abreojos early Friday morning. Hoping to be surfing by Saturday & Sunday, then into Scorpion.

:o Eeeewww!!! I would've made a mad dash outta there! I have a bad case of bug-a-phobia and get bitten a lot when other ppl don't! And I'm allergic to bites and stings.

Make sure you carry an epi-pen and/or max potentcy Benedril when you travel in Baja!

Curt, can you size that pic up? Do those flies bite? If so, I can't imagine except to say I got into some noseeums and moose sized mosquitos bigtime in AK one time. Oh and upper Kings Canyon too!

Yeah, I'd try to take both. I usually just immediately take a ton of benedryl but want an epi-pen just in case!

We have a nasty fly prolem here in the sierra during the summer months. Don't know exactly the type, but they are like small house flies, they annoyingly love to fly around you and go in your nose and ears.
We did find a couple types of traps that seem to control the flies quite nicely. One type traps them and they just dry up (no odor), another is one where they get trapped in a water/bait solution.

http://www.ridmax.com/ (dry type)

(wet type) these work, but are not reuseable
