Organic Farmers' Market at Poco Cielo (Next door to La Fonda) starting August 19
Adjacent to the well-known La Fonda restaurant in La Mision, on the right hand (north) side, the market is hosted by the Poco Cielo Hotel, which
offers a beautiful lobby, bar and restaurant area with oceanfront views, and, also, the rooms that open up to a courtyard with a softly tinkling
fountain.
I am eagerly looking forward to checking out what the farmer’s market has to offer next Wednesday!

we LOVE poco cielo. that being said, why would the farmers not want to meet on a weekend so as to get the weekenders business? but then again, FRESH
produce is welcome anytime.

Is there another market in a neighboring town that most of the farmers go to on the weekend? That's often times the reason for starting a Wednesday
market. It gives the farmer's a middle of the week outlet for the produce that ripens so quickly.
Enjoy the Market GypsyJan, maybe post some pics?

Woody and Baja Nuts
Excellent questions. I hope to find answers and give updates.
I really want this market to be successful.
Oh, BTW, the produce is said to come from Valle de Guadelupe, the Napa Valley of Baja.

Mercado Hidalgo in Tijuana
Is, I think, equivalent to the big Central Market in downtown Los Angeles.
But, that is a forty mile drive away.
The weekly tianguis in our local village, Primo Tapia, is disappointing, since it seems that all the produce comes from boxes picked up from Costco.
So, I am hoping that there is a change of status quo going on.

interesting observation Jan!
here's to hoping that the farmers are growing/marketing more than yesca..... we drove thru that market one day a few months ago with some friends from
chicago and never got out of the truck. now that you bring it up it's all so clear. there was nothing unusual/special about it to draw us
closer.....

costco produce sold at a fresh market in Baja?!? yeck!
Maybe the new market can attract even some families who may have a big garden! Spread the word, maybe some people will show up who never thought
about doing the market before.
Just wondering, is the market being "marketed" as an ORGANIC market as those NOB understand organic? No pesticides, no synthetic fertilizers (I don't
know all the particulars and regulations but you know what I mean).
Do local growers understand and subscribe to the concepts of organic gardening? I don't want to get all tied up in a huge discussion of the merits or
non-merits of organic vs non-organic. I just saw that word in you first post and was curious what you meant by it and how it will relate to this
great new fresh produce market.
(how's that for trying to cover all the bases and not start a firestorm?)

Orgainic?
Baja Nuts
That is what it is advertised. Does it live up to the standards you are referencing? Heck, no idea, but I am going to try to find out.
I am available to be hired, if you want a certified report.

The Santa Anita/La Mision one is on Mondays, so this Wednesday one will be a very nice addition to the area.

I don't think that the farmer's market would cater to the tourism industry because of USDA and CPP restrictions bringing fruits and veggies into the
US.
