Cable, Dish, Direct????
Okay, I know this has been discussed before, but I am asking again because things change...........
What's the best way to get the most and best US television stations in Rosarito? Our condo recommends cable, but when we were there, we didn't get
enough US channels for me. I want to include National Geographic TV, HGTV, Travel Channel, etc. We have Time Warner at home here in San Diego.....

After being a faithful Time Warner (Southwestern Cable in the old days) for over 30 years I finally pulled the plug on them and went to DISH Network.
Not only do we enjoy it here in San Diego but also at our Beach House below San Felipe for an extra $5 a month.
Lots of channels plus we get XETV 6 San Diego for our local San Diego news fix while in Baja.

I know you asked about cable tv, but here's some links for watching TV on computer. Others may appreciate these links also.
here's a link to download readon from cnet. TV stations all over the world and parts of San Diego. Also movies, radio
http://download.cnet.com/Readon-TV-Movie-Radio-Player/3000-1...
Plus there's the ol' standby ones-
hulu
sidereel
movieonline.cc
History/Discovery/NatGeo are tough to watch on the internet unlike Network shows. They are all available on SideReel.
edit to include link to recent post that has links to the above websites in it-

I tried hulu on a dsl line in BCS. It would not stream the video, and had a pop up to explain why. I have been told since then that it works on a
satellite hook up. I guess they don't know your in Mexico then.

When planning to live part/full time in Baja, often my friends and I put great thought and effort into TV, SAT, DVD etc... but when you get to Baja
you realize that TV is not the focus, in fact its a waste of time and money and is more likely fodder for thieves.
If you skip the TV/SAT you will save thousands of needed dollars, save endless time and space. If instead you spend the time, money and energy on
people and reading you will be well rewarded. You may even find you have a predilection for art and discovery and find an entirely new outlet.

Believe me, I would rather be up and out, but I my case some back surgery put into hospital bed most of the time... so I do read, play the guitar,
work on tube amps, do a lot of reading, and just about any thing else to keep from going crazy, plus now I spend a lot of time on the Baja board
trying to get caught up on what is going on down there, it's been a long time for me.... I'm coming no matter what, even if I have to pushed out to
the beach in a wheel chair I want to go back down to the Baja.. just have some things that I used to not use, but things change... think we know that
one.
I know what your saying, but my age and physical condition will keep me out of La Fonda's, and most other places I used to go when a young man and in
shape..
But, thanks I really do know... things you come down with just seem to wash away or at least that is what I'm hoping .... magic is still there.
All the good posts about the Baja is doing some good for my mental health.... the super pictures, surfing, fishing, happy people, good food..... guess
I'm preaching to the choir...
Thanks all

Get Dish or direct two recievers one for the home in the US ( If you have one) one for down here. Second option. More than likely you have a neighbor
that has Dish or Direct ask them to add you to thier account and pay them monthly cash. Contact Limon Parabolicos north of town accross from the new
Calimax/ Bancomer ask them to install. Only after you pick up a Dish and receiver on craigs list or e-bay on the internet and shleep those critters
down here. Muy simple those guys at Limons Parabolicos espeaka de english but charge about fifty bucks. Dont let them charge you more because your a
gringo, they love to do that!

Doesn't anybody use SKY satellite? I do. It has many of the cable channels (in English) I used to watch in San Diego and a great selection of movie
channels, also in English. Fox, CNN, and Bloomberg news channels too. It also has many Spanish language channels and is what most Mexicans use in my
area that have sat dishes. Watching TV in Spanish helps learning the language.
Check it out.
The following works in TJ on the coast and might work in Rosarito if you can get the antenna up high enough.
I have a fringe area UHF antenna on the roof pointed at Mt. Wilson (LA), about 10 degrees west of north, and can get all the OTA LA/Orange County
digital broadcasts.
The coax from the roof goes into a A/B switch with also has a small indoor antenna pointed at San Diego (Mt. Miguel, 25 degrees or so east of north)
connected to it that allows me to watch San Diego OTA digital broadcasts. An antenna with a rotor would be the ticket, but my current set-up works
just fine and is a lot cheaper.
I would be happy with just OTA TV but my wife likes SKY.
BTW, digital OTA broadcasts are crystal clear and many are in high def. Many channels are broken into 4 sub-channels and therefore the selection is
much greater than the old analog days. I have about 10 different PBS broadcasts to choose from.

K-rico, are you saying that you get Fox News on Sky? That would certainly be cheaper than doing Sirius FM radio.

Yes, I have the basic service, no add-ons.
The English news channels are FOX, CNN International, and Bloomberg. You can also watch some of the network morning news shows.
History Channel, National Geographic, Animal Channel and the like are also included.
There are about 10 English movie channels, most with Spanish subtitles, with the basic service.

Is SKY the only legal satellite service in northern Mexico? I'm guessing there are other services way south via the latin american satellites.
