resident Tonino victim of violence
On our drive out to Los Choros to look for Juan's huaraches he forgot there a couple days ago....we came across this sad sight. One of our resident
tonino...not sure what kind of dolphin she is....she was a grandmother about 12' long and worn down teeth.
These families cruise up and down the beaches here and we love them dearly....she will be sadly missed by her family.
sorry for the graphic photo but it seems so tragic she had to die from a bullet hole...just below the eye...who knows why?

Interesting, we saw two carcasses along the beach about a mile north of town while walking two weeks ago. We could not investigate as there was no
good access down to the beach level.
We assumed the got caught in nets.

These animals are so defenseless and trusting they are just sitting ducks. The Mex. Game and Fish guys should be informed and offer a big reward to
catch the perp. and stop this type of activity as quick as they can.

We can hope that is the case, but it is doubtful. Most people don't just take a casual stroll down the beach armed with a gun. I'm assuming that she
was shot from a boat. So sad and such a waste.
Whenever I hear that rainy, chill wind blow. I think it may be time to head for Mexico. Tengo que obedecer mi corazon!

That is so sad. And here's what's strange. When we were in Erendira in August, we found three porpoise carcasses on the beach within a half mile.
Didn't even think to look for a bullet hole as we throught it was a disease running through the pods there. We see Harbor Seal carcasses all the time
with bullet holes through the head, or head chopped off to hide the evidence, and while that is just as heinous, you you at least understand (or not)
the reason.
Do you think the one with the bullet hole you saw was caught in a net and they shot it to keep it from thrashing and damaging the net, causing
expensive repairs, or loss of pez? Still heinous, but a possible exlpanation why they would shoot such a beautiful, peaceful creature. Times are
tough. Sigh.

duke...hmmm...never thought of shooting a dolphin thrashing in a net but sounds possible. A few days ago we found a newborn dead on the beach
too...wonder if it was mama's poor baby starved?
Found 2 more at the secret beach too...couldnt tell what killed these. Most are net fatalaties.

Hi Shari, So sorry you lost a friend. Several times over the years I have found many dead, shot with a bullet, seals, turtles and dolphins on the
beaches of Baja. It is very disturbing. I've usually concluded that they were killed by the off-shore fishing operations- netters and longliners.
They (the commercial fisherman) need to be run-out of the Sea of Cortez, never allowed to return. They are killing the Sea. I've slowed down my
fishing to mostly catch and release, as a way to make a smaller imprint. Many friends and I have tried to make an impact on the Mexican government
but as we all know, money talks. I don't have enough. The Japanese do. On the East Cape there is also a small movement to slow down the Gringos who
take large numbers of tuna, to can and take back North, hundreds of pounds of canned tuna. If we humans don't take on the responsibility to protect
our Oceans, it is estimated that within 10-20 years, there won't be any game fish left in the Sea of Cortez. I do support localized fishing co-ops;
they often practice sustainable fishing programs, limit the fish take and look toward the Future with an open eye towards tomorrow. I once found a
leatherback, 1200 lbs. or more, dead, with only the head missing (cut off). The gentle beast was over 100 years old. So sad.
