flu shots

For anyone interested.
There are free flu shots available here in Loreto.
At the new hospital on the highway, at medicina preventiva, all you have to do is ask. You'll get a receipt, which you will have to show when the H1N1 shots become available, which should be shortly.

If anyone can't get to or doesn't want a shot....Make sure you load up with vitamin D...preferably D3... 5000 IU per day

Timo, I take 400 I.U. of D (Calciferol) which is 100% of the U.S. RDA, besides what I also get in milk and food intake each day.

What is D3 and why is it safe to take that much of it?

Thank you!

PS I have been using Nova Vitamins for about 1.5 years and have not been ill to cold or flu since I started http://www.novavitamins.com/

In the past I have taken Amway/Nutrilte Double X and later Melaeuca's fructose compounded vitamins for years... But, the results from these Nova vitamins have been the best, and the best price, as well...

Wouldn't get a flu shot if you paid me.....
Take Wellness by Source Natural or Yin Chaio by Planetary if you think your getting sick or if you have been around ill people.:)
Flu Shots are loaded with animal virus, formaldehyde and allot of other ugly stuff. Just my opinion....and I'm not alone

Certainly to each his own, but I have had the H1N1 flu as have 6 members of my family. After a month, still not over it. It is a bad flu, reminds me of the Hong Kong flu many years ago. My neighbor (41 years old) said his clothes hurt. Many younger folks suffer greatly. The number of hospitalized children and pregnant women is greatly increased over the seasonal flu. Death rate among hospitalized pregnant women is above 20%. This is not the ordinary flu, it strikes the young. Sadly, the vaccine is not available, even for high risk groups. 99% of the cases now are H1N1. Then when the seasonal flu starts, it will be interesting to see how it plays out. After my bout (and others) with this flu, I would rather have the vaccine than the disease, the consequences are too great. I now have my immunity, gained the hard way. But again, to each his own.

This might prove to be an interesting thread...

Jack as much as I don't like a lot of the shots the thought that I could pick up H1N1 and pass it on to someone who then dies is the determining factor . You are right this is a deadly flu the young without preconditions are dying . The demand is greater than the supply and those who are priority folk are being missed . We didn't take it seriously enough and as you say , it's going to run over the " flu season" . Hopefully deaths will be few but the start doesn't auger well

One factor that is making it worse is that people are going to the emergency rooms with what they think is the H1N1 flu when they don't have it, but the emergency rooms do have some cases of people having it and they pass it to the ones that don't.

I don't know what is in the various flu shots but people will claim it has or does all sorts of things to justify not getting it and they are entitled to their opinoin and beliefs. Me, I get the shots and can not remember the last time I had the flu of anykind. Some of the people that work for me won't get the shot and I have to redo the work schedule to cover them while they are sick.

I have had it for a week and it is scary. REST, Rest, rest. Still not better but luckily not a bad case. Just hoping my better 3/4s doesn't catch it. We are completely out of vaccine in So. AZ. TV & Doc office says it will be around Nov. 5th before more is to arrive.

The flu shot available here is for the regular flu.
Apparently you need the little certificate that shows you received this shot before you're eligible for the H1N1 when it becomes available. This is strictly hearsay information, so don't hold me to it.:no:

And....as an answer to all these home remedies to keep the flu and colds at bay, maybe some attention should be paid to alcohol as a preventative.
I've noticed for years that folks who drink copious amounts of the stuff, very seldom show signs of flu or cold like symptoms.:biggrin:
Just a thought.:P

Salud !!:saint:

From what I've read, with respect to H1N1, people over the age of 60, or thereabouts and are in good health, have little to fear from this flu, inasmuch as back in the day folks that old were exposed to a flu that had certain similar signatures, which caused the body to develop immunity. It's kids that are really feeling the brunt.

However, it appears that the health authorities are way off in counting the actual numbers of victims. One actually has to be tested and show positive for the virus. I'm assuming there's alot of folks who were ill and self-diagnosed.

Numbers from the CDC are that the over 60 year old group gets fewer cases of H1N1 but has a higher percentage of deaths for the group. 1/3 of the deaths are attributed to Bacterial Pneumonia that can be prevented with the Pneumonia Vaccine shot. Facts as stated by the CDC.

David K
I gave you a link to watch....they tell us the dose whether its right or wrong
no idea
There's a few stats I don't agree with on that video
As for D3.....A very good friend and lab tech at the local hospital told me about it
She also said that 5000 IU sounds a little high but not a problem

My childrens pediatricians office called yesterday and said they had a few H1n1 vaccines left and asked if we would like our children to get them. I am torn between getting them and passing on them. I don't know enough about either the flu or vaccine. I only know what I hear on the news. Our pediatrician says what he has seen come through his office are mild cases. I know that won't always be the case. I passed on the offering, at least for now.
