What I MIGHT be doing this weekend (and you can join too)!
They say if you say it enough it will come true. If you visualize it, chances are even better.
FRIDAY (7-2-04): Hit the road by 6am, border by 8. Gas stop at Rosarito Pemex/AmPm by toll gate.
See Keri, Pyramid Resort by 9 (pick up something for Cielito Lindo delivery). Cielito Lindo by 1pm, lunch at Laura's Wet Buzzard at Gypsy's, Rancho
Cielito Lindo. Gas stop at El Rosario (BajaCactus') and at the Junction (ex-Parador Punta Prieta).
SATURDAY: EASY DAY at Gecko... visit with friends: Doc, Beach Bob, 4Baja, Beth, Alex (SoCalAl), others, and meet new amigos hopefully. Swim, snorkel,
siesta, what-evah!
SUNDAY: LOST MISSION HUNT VI and drive to Bahia las Animas. See previous lost mission hunts and photos of what I am seeking at http://community-2.webtv.net/baja4me/1757 and go to page 2. Perhaps have some birria at China's taco stand in town. Sunday night, enjoy 4Baja's
annual 4th of July / Camp Gecko fireworks show!
MONDAY: Visit Jose and family at Mision San Borja, possible side trip to Montevideo pictograph site and Baja's finest cactus garden. Dine at La
Hamacas Restaurant in Bahia de L.A.
TUESDAY: Sad day... pack up and head home! So much Baja... So little time! Back home by 9pm.

Here's my Schedule: It's EXCITING!!
Friday: Drive to work. Work. Drive home.
Saturday: Change underwear. Exercise MA's leg. Brush teeth.
Sunday: Make pot roast like the 1950's.
Monday: Listen to some Pat Boone albums and take meds.
Waaaa! Daddy, take me away from it all!
Give me a storm at sea while I'm in it! Put me piloting a plane filled with illegal good-guy weapons landing at a jungle-covered airstrip in
Guatamala. Drop me into the Andes to rediscover an animal species that was thought extinct. Throw me from a 10 MPH chopper onto the sands of Arabia
and let me face my enemies. Give me a paintbrush and notepad and toss me into an archilogical excavation in Egypt. But...
in reality I'll be watching unwanted re-runs and rented movies the next few weeks, during which time we'll recover from past great adventures and
prepare for our next. Treatment from hell!
Best regards to all the good folks at Bahia de Los Angeles. We'll see you the next trip.

David, great short trip and quick Baja fix. You are doing it right by leaving early on Friday and not returning until Tuesday. I imagine the
crossing on Monday will be horrible.
Mike, Please tell MaryAnn that Audrey and I wish a speedy recovery on her knee surgery!

The closest I'm gonna get to Baja this weekend is an amber dos XX. But I'll have a good time 4wheeling, barbequing VEGES, and might go to Bodie/Mono

Well, in Lucerne Valley with wife's mother and family - cook a little something and have a relaxing day - watch city fireworks that evening - then
head back to Baja on the 5th. Side trip to yuma and home on 6th. But thinking of you'all anyway

I am loading the truck this afternoon!!! My daughter and I will leave by 6 am... The rest of the schedule will be close to what I guessed.

For some really strange reason, it looks like we can't get to Baja from 'here' (nor-Cal) right now!!!
We'll just load all our kin on the old boat and drift down the San Joaquin River to a place called 'Mandeville Isle', right near the Duck Club Baron
Hilton calls home for a few days around the 4th of July each year.
The Baron and his closest 3,000 or so boat-buddies will stand by on Sunday night and watch him shoot off his great collection of fireworks on the
river, over our heads!!! He's been doing it for years, and it's a great time by all, as the sky rockets 'BOOM' above us, and the cardboard ashes rain
down on our decks!
It's fun to watch the Baron's Black Hilo's ferry his VIP buddies in from the Stockton airport and land on the levee next to the 'Club'. BTW, the
back-bar of the duck club still has a half bottle of scotch under a bell jar that belonged to Clark Gable...just one of the many Hollywood types that
have tried to earn 'River-Rat' status up here while enjoying the Baron's hospitality!
And we can't forget ESG, who wrote three books about the Sacto-Delta area during his 'River Queen' house boating days up here. The River Queens were
great old steel hulled houseboats, made in the 60's. (hell, I even rebuilt one myself, about 10 years ago - great little boats) Once ESG got the
'bug', he had to have several! During his summer 'treks', he would bring all his 'people' up here with him, so he could still keep old Perry Mason up
and running...
After the weekend, I'm going to make it a 'rough' two-day work week, so I can load up our little off-road trailer and head up into the Sierra's with
the family to our favorite Mokelueme River camp spot, away from the crowds, on Thursday! Nothing like a nice 4-day weekend, after a holiday 3-day'er!
All of you fellow travelers, drive smart and get back in good shape! Have a happy & safe holiday! All the best...and maybe a few good thoughts to
those 'old guys' a couple of 100 years ago that took the time to carve out a great little country for us to grow into!

I did ask Choral Pepper about how in the world Erle Stanley Gardner could go from being such a desert rat to a river rat... She was just as miffed as
I. It was a strange shift of interests for him... right close to his death in 1970 (I believe).
My truck is loaded and my son Chris is also going. He was going to stay with his friend, but it seems his friend (and parents) is going to Magdalena
Bay, where they have property! If it weren't for the sleep I need, I would leave right now!

There's lotts to see in the delta - thousands of miles of channels. on a houseboat you're as self contained as in a far out Baja camp. You can find
places giving the same feeling of isolation and insulation from the real world back there.
Haven't been there for years, but sure used to enjoy the area.

Going to San Clemente Island Friday night, fish and dive Saturday, BBQ fresh fish and fresh veggies Sunday. No Baja for me until the Coast Guard
sends me the new documentation on the new boat. 3rd boat in the last year! I flipped one at the East Cape last August! But that is another story.
Only been 90 days since I applied, manana they tell me.
Fortunately I am pretty good at the manana thing.
Anyone who is in the area you are all invited to the farm after 4 o'clock the 4th. Muscians especially welcome for an informal jam session. We bbq,
make fresh strawberry ice cream, horseshoe, volley ball, etc. and watch the fireworks which are launched from my equipment yard by the City, my
landlords. It is a really good show, 6 inch shells, up really close. My chickens hate it!
To all a safe and happy 4th of July.

MexRAy, i lived
in Martinez for a spell in 1980. we made a few drinkin' trips out to the delta and around Antioch i believe. i remember a few great bars and
restaurants in the delta region and around the levees. We also did a lot of wine trips back then up to napa , but i didn't know dick diddly about wine
back then - only how to chugg it.
I recall a lot of Sebastiani's "eye of the swan", a white pinot that we loved cold.
Gawd i'd love some frisco sour dough about now.......
Stuck in AZ for the 4th, and with a bad cold to boot.....suuuuuuuuccccckkkkksss!!!!!

I am one of the lurkers that "David K " was talking about and the picture of Jose's family reminded me what a small place Baja really is. I spent the
night at Borja last April and had his son show me the cave art in a nearby canyon. I will be heading to the Bay of Los Angeles next week with my boat
and maybe I will run into some of you down there. I am planning on boat camping at Don Juan Cove and would like any information about the area that
you have. I will be targeting Yellowtail, but I would really like to get into a Dorado or two. So, If you have any current information, I sure would
appreciate it.
Mexray, I have seen that bottle and glass of Clark Gables in the club house that you described and enjoyed all the hanging bird mounts from the
ceilings. Hope you all have a safe 4th.

Now you've done it! you had to go and mention SF Sourdough French Bread!!!
I've lived in around the SF Bay area all my life, and I can never get enough of that stuff!!! AS you probably know, there's a couple of bakeries in
SF that have been baking that sourdough for ever...and they have a special yeast, dough 'starter' that's guarded to the death! It's said that the Fog
that rolls into SF, has a special effect on that dough the bread's made from....whatever it is, it's heaven, when you get it fresh baked!
There's been many a time, over the years, during crab season, that we've jumped in our 'road wreck', run over to the City and loaded up with goodies!
A loaf of SF sourdough, a couple of crabs, a bottle or three of a cheap local Cabernet...then head for the beach...what a great time!
I can remember a time when we threw our two kids in the old MoHo, got our Sf goodies, and headed north. We ended up that day a place on the coast
called 'Goat Rock'. It's a place just south of where the Russian River flows to the ocean (below Jenner). It's a day-use only area, but we were
late, it was getting dark, so we said "what the hell, we'll just stop here till they kick us out". We had a great Crab/Sourdough/Wine meal, watched
the moon drift across the evening sky and bedded down. About 6:00 AM the next morning, I awake to a "knock-knock-knock' at the door...I throw on some
clothes, open the door and find the local Sheriff...He's a cool guy, asks me to pull up our window shades so it looks as if we just pulled into the
area - then no one would complaign....we weren't bothering anyone, and he knew it - cool guy...we brewed up some fresh 'French Roast' coffee for him,
and he went on with his 'rounds'...That's how life should be!
Speaking of 'bread'...last time we headed home from Mulege, we stopped at the Gigante in north-Rosarito for some booze. The bakery in the store has
just dumped a load of fresh, hot boleo's into the bins...we loaded up about a half a dozen...thought we'd enjoy em' when we got home - WRONG...we ate
all of em' on the road! They weren't SF sourdough, but, boy-howdy, were they GOOD!
