Medicalservices in El Rosario
Ed Lusk, of Baja's Best in El Rosario, wanted Nomadas to know that there is now a 24 hour ambulance and medical service with an English speaking
doctor in El Rosario. Not linked with IMSS.
It is the only one between San Quintin & Guerrero Negro.
24 hour phone line is 616-165-8656, or see Ed.
Hope nobody needs it, but there it is.

maybe the whole ordeal had something to do with this.
edit: Elsa's daughter is busy raising her baby girl. Her husband Santos is fishing at La Paloma with the family. The taco shop is only open a few
times a month as the current economy and fishing season being in full swing dictates the pay scale.

All I can say about his place is that we were the only customers for breakfast recently and the young woman who was cooking and serving was more
interested in chatting with her boyfriend. It took forever to get breakfast, and the food was crappy.

I had a long talk with Ed regarding this; it is private. HOW they got into this business is a very interesting story, best told by Ed.
Re: food at Baja's Best: I have eaten there, breakfast only, maybe a dozen times over the last few years and have yet to have anything other than a
good meal. I've eggs scrambled, fried, or in omelets, hot cakes, fruit and yogurt. Best coffee in El Rosario in my opinion (whether or not it's
Starbucks is immaterial - it's better than anyplace else in town). Either I'm real lucky or have low standards. I'll check to that.
Does essence predate existence?

Several of us stayed at Ed's for three nights last year and were pleased with the rooms, the food, Ed's advice and info about the area.
His dogs were great entertainment, the cats were polite, the food was good, the coffee readily available...
The only thing I didn't like in those three days was one gringa traveller (who made it seem in her loud and obnoxious way that she knew Ed) who, with
absolutely no tact or social grace, loudly asked Ed for the latest "gossip" regarding the taco stand shooting.
This was done as a few tables were enjoying breakfast, the warmth of the fire (January), and their private conversations.
Ed is a gracious host....his son is a championship "doubles" surfer....
If you don't like the pets....eat at Applebee's

Good advice Ged!
Ed has always been polite and friendly... The food is great... During lobster season, ask Ed to make the lobster his/ 'Ed's Way'.
For breakfast, order the chorizo breakfast burritos... great!

Didn't mind the pets---didn't care for the food or the smoke.
Like all places, it fits the tastes of some, and not others.
A private ambulance service? That is interesting. Wonder what they charge.

The chorizo that Ed gets is maybe the best I have had....his efforts with his establishment are service-oriented and respectful in my experience....I
had a difficult time finding any better food in El Rosario...Mama's included...

Mixed Bag at Ed's
I had a couple of meals there last week. The breakfast was OK, and the coffee excellent.
The Dinner the last night there was pretty bad. I had scallops. They were little pieces about 1/2 inch square, and not many of them. ( I guess they
were scallops?) My buddy had lobster, just 300 pesos, but he said it was the very worst he had ever had. Smelled bad, tasted bad. looked bad. I woud
not have eaten it, but he did, and went away with the feeling he would never eat there again.
I like Ed, and have had many meals and good conversation there for years. The hamburgers used to be really wonderful, but we didn't try them this
time.
He said business was off over 50% which could account for not keeping the food up to snuff. But that's a death knell for regulars like us, or getting
repeat customers. He might be better off cutting down on the variety on the menu and keeping the remainder fresh and tasteful.
I know all of the restaurants in Baja (and elsewhere) are having one Hell of a tough time in this economy.

This points up a conundrum to Nomads and other travelers. It is especially true of smaller restaurants in smaller towns. With business having
cratered, one has to wonder about the freshness of what is being served. Obviously, stuff out of a can, or tortillas are not risky. But stuff like
eggs, fish, shrimp and scallops, and certain meats....
If we don't patronize these places, things only get worse for their proprietors. If we do eat there, there's that risk as mentioned by Fred.

Sort of a no win scenario... bummer!
I would have a frank/ honest chat with Ed or any other resteraunt owner if you have or smell/ see anything not looking edible or worthy of paying for.
They want your business and know if there is competition, they have to earn your patronage.
Was Ed there... ? Because it does make a difference.
A back up, for simple, fresh, local food might be Hugo's Tacos Mision... Tacos, burritos, stuffed baked potatoes... and great art!

i have never had a good meal in el rossario.
i think it is a truck stop town with truck stop food.
