Fond Adieu to Los Frailes
Los Frailes, also known as Wayne Davy, passed away yesterday following a fight with bladder cancer. Many of you have used his services in the past to
install television with FTA and later with Dish Network and all of the Hughesnet customers in our part of the world either had him install your dish
or come in and correct an installation that someone else did but was not working right. He and his stepson, Mario traveled all over the peninsula
installing systems for a lot of people and he will be sorely missed. Mario plans on carrying on with the business while he attends College so if you
need assistance please give him a call.
For those of us who were close friends with Wayne, while he could be a little cranky at times ( his old military ways)but he had a heart as big as
all outdoors and generally went overboard in his service and help.
This is an insidious disease that has claimed my wife and now one of my best friends in the last 6 months and I certainly hope for the day when they
find some cures for this terrible malady.
Wayne, you will truly be missed.

I did not know your wife lost her battle---I am so sad. I just see that wonderful smile on her face when she returned to her little house in
Baja---the one of her fishing that you posted. I am so sorry. Remembering that picture brings tears.
While I never met Wayne, I e-mailed and talked to him on the phone a number of times when we were considering satelite---a real loss and my thoughts
are also with his family.
Lost a close friend this year---the father of my children to Renal Cell Cancer---it is the pits and takes our loved ones far too early.

Seemed to me a regular gentleman here. He must have really loved Baja. Damn this time of year for the losing of loved ones.

RIP Wayne...
I met Wayne through Baja Nomads about six years ago. I had read so many good things about him setting up systems, that I had him come over to San
Somewhere and fix our system at Juan y Juan's. He brought over Mario, his stepson Mario, and was teaching him the business (Mario is now doing the
work and is excellent). Wayne was quite the character for sure. A little rough on the edges, but always up front and fair on everything. You always
knew where you stood with him for sure. He will be missed and I am truly thankful that I had the opportunity to have him in my world and was able to
get to know him over these last few years. You are loved in Baja Wayne!

While I never met Wayne in person I always enjoyed his posts and felt as though I knew him. I'm sorry to find out that this is the Wayne you meant had
cancer and even sorrier to discover just how soon after receiving that news he passed away.

Like everyone of us who knew Wayne, I was deeply saddened when I was told of his passing. I know Wayne has been fighting his battle with cancer for
some time.
My sympathies to his family and friends who mourn his death. Baja was the better for him, as he added his 'special thing' to the mix. Not one to
minch words and always gruffly nice, I liked him a lot. The times I spend watching television and being online in Baja are due in no small part to
Wayne. He brought us all some form of satisfaction and had the know-how to accomplish what most of us oldtimers would consider a miracle.
We are sad to say goodbye to another Baja affecianado.
He passed on his legacy to Mario and every time I have Mario over to correct this or that satellite dish, I will recall Wayne gently teaching him the
trade.
I do what the voices in my tackle box tell me.

Mrs. Miller and I were aware that your dear wife was ill but some how, some way, hoped for a miracle that she was in remission, but was afraid to
inquire of her condition -- today we became aware that she is no longer with us.. So sad-- you certainly have our deepest condolences which we can
only send over this impersonal electronic highway.
So many memories-- I vividly recall our first meeting at Camachos-- we beached in our yellow kayaks and met you all with the long ocean going
kayaks...A bond was created that has endured all theses many good years, The fishing, the meals, the great conversations, the deep friendship...
Now Wayne Davy.. Two dear long term friends in one day from such a small tight knit community !
We visited Wayne and Monica often and on occasion also broke bread with them.
Wayne and I had many commonalities; both were USAF veterans and along with Elinvesti8 we shared a common heritage, however Wayne was from Idaho and
did not have family in the Mexican colonies as we did.
It was during the conversations with Mrs. Miller that Wayne's eyes lit up. Prior to entering the academic world Mrs Miller was a V/P of a electronic
manufacturing company. They could and often visited for hours discussing the latest electronic devices.
If you have the opportunity please extend our personal condolences to his widow Monica, his children Jonny, Viviana and Mario as we certainly extend
to you and yours.
The great American author Thomas Wolfe wrote two monumental books "Look homeward angel" and "You can't go home again." And indeed he was correct for
we know we can never go home again to SLC, for it will never be the same; The weather will never be as warm, the sun will not be as bright, the water
will not be as clear and the fishing will not be as much fun because of the deep vacancy created by the passing on Merica and Wayne...

I'm sorry to hear of Wayne's death. While I did not know him personally, he was a kind and helpful member of nomads as well as of his Baja community.

Jim - i never knew Wayne - but i was shocked to read your wife had passed.
i am so very sorry for your loss and will always remember our 1st meeting in nov 2001 at Ceilito Lindo bar when i was hauling my trailer south to
mulege.
we swapped some good flying stories amigo.
i too hung at Camachos for 3 extra nites under his palapas before i completed my trip to Serenidad.
