Nearer My Dog to Thee

Anyone who has read of my four-month 2001 adventure with Baja “street dog” Pedro in the Sierra San Pedro Mártir will be saddened to know that he passed away Saturday after losing a short battle with spleen cancer.

He was a sweet, trusting, friendly fellow. So humble and so grateful for everything he had. Everyone who knew him loved him.

Thank you Baja Animal Sanctuary for rescuing him from the streets of Rosarito Beach and for enabling us to enjoy each others company for almost 9 years.

I know his spirit is now running free with his little “street dog” buddy Penny, who was there with us that summer in the San Pedro Mártir, and likewise brought smiles and joy where ever she went.

Adios amigo.

Graham- These dogs mean so much to us. Just look at the smiles on both of those dogs in your photo. They were happy dogs. They are not on this earth long enough though. My dog Paco and I share the sorrow of your loss.

Anytime You Lose Someone You Love

It's as if a pair of cutters have clipped a piece off of yor heart.

It hurts to breathe and you wake up in the morning with that feeling of loss.

God Speed, Pedro, I hope you are in happy pastures, waiting for your family to find you again.

I feel your pain. I just got a collie pup last summer, to fill the void in my heart left when I lost my boyhood best friend 26 years ago. Another collie I got for my ninth birthday. I truly hope I die before I lose another! He is chasing rabbits and squirrels forever, in dog heaven. Peace Pedro!!!

Graham, I feel your sorrow. This always made me feel a bit better

The Rainbow Bridge Story

Just this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.

There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food and water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and time gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing: they miss someone very special to them; who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. The bright eyes are intent; the eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to break from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. YOU have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

THEN YOU CROSS RAINBOW BRIDGE TOGETHER....
