Yes BajaCat, that's me singing Las Mañanitas to Mama Espinoza after finding some pictures of her 100th birthday on the internet in November 2007 some 40 years after I left her care. That was the day I cried my eyes out realizing she was still alive and me not ever reaching out to her before that day! I felt a lot of guilt. Mama forgave me of course when I went to see her in December!
I can't sing or play the guitar very well but I try!

Thank you Astrobaja! I almost cried a couple of time singing that day. When I finally saw Mama Espinoza in December for the first time after all those years and started singing the song to her in person I did in fact break down and cry but was able to eventually sing it all the way through. I sure love her!

I sure felt a lot of guilt that day that's for sure. Mama and I discussed it when I went to see her but she of course the great lady that she is said she was not upset with me and understood. A great weight was lifted from me that day I can tell you!

I had seen it before... Very well done David!

===============================================================

On the subject of Mama Espinoza's age, I have three books and two different D.O.B.s for Mama. The newest one (her Biography called 'Anita') that she signed for me last July and she told me was the 'accurate' one about her, says she was born in 1910 (October 16)... So, that puts her at 99 now. The 1994 'autobiography' called 'Reflections' says the year was 1908. Making her 101 now... Above you say November 2007 (making her 102 now)...???

When I was making my '709' trip web page with Mama signing the book to me... I did an edit after I gave one age, but checked the book that says she was two years younger...

Will there be another 100th birthday party this October 16th , I wonder?

Do you know why so many birth years... ? Thanks!

David K. The "Official" Date of Birth I have for Mama is October 16 1907. The last time I was there which was October 2009 for her 102nd birthday Mama and her daughter Elvia (Roli) confirmed that Mama was born on October 16, 1907. There is some discussion that she may even have been born as early as 1906. All I can say is that any year later than "1907" making her younger than the 102 she is, is incorrect according to Mama and Roli. As to the why other years of birth are out there I do not have an answer. I can ask that question when I go see Mama in May. As for her 103rd birthday on October 16, 2010 if she is up to it I’m sure she will have a birthday party.

She is so sharp otherwise.... I wonder why her books have different birth years... and she even was specific with me that this newest book is the 'accurate' one (10-16-1910)!??

Oh well... 99, 101, 102... they are all major years to achieve!

David K I think when we reach the age she is even though she has a mind like a “Steel Trap” a slightly rusted “Steel Trap” she may get confused from time-to-time. She is up there in age as you know! That said I will dig into it further to see if I can find some conclusive evidence of her age when I go see her in May. I will let you know what I find out.

I just printed this post and put it into a box that I take with me to La Baja so I don't forget to to do the mini investigation and ask her the questions. I will publish a report here!

David would love nothing more than to go on that trip with you guys but unfortunately I am scheduled to testify at back-to-back trials between now and when I go to see Mama. Besides my guitar playing and singing skills need much more improvement than I have time to devote. You guys go have fun in the desert. I will be there with you in spirit!

BajaCat if you guys do stop in to eat there please make sure to go see Mama and tell her that her "El Gringo David Martinez" loves her. Also please tell Roli for me that I love her and it comes from her brother David! If you do that I will be so appreciative. That is if you have time. Take pictures with Mama and Roli too. Thanks BajaCat.
