Fuel prices / March 6th, 2010
Magna.............$ 7.73 pesos per liter
Premium..........$ 9.35 pesos per liter
Diesel..............$ 8.13 pesos per liter
These prices are in liters... since 1 gallon = 3.7854 liters and today (March 6th, 2010) 1 dollar = $12.50 pesos (+/-), we can calculate the
approximate price per gallon:
Magna.............$ 2.341 dollars per gallon
Premium..........$ 2.831 dollars per gallon
Diesel..............$ 2.462 dollars per gallon

Forgot to factor in 1% to 2% loss (or more) for overly-optimistic pump calibration. 1 gallon Mex rarely equals 1 gallon US.

that is good to know. And Doug... considering you are hard pressed to find gas under $300 in San Diego these days, even with that 1-2%, it's still
savings.
I know pemex is government owned, but how standardized are their prices?

The prices are standard thruout the country. (with a few ecxpetions in very remote areas)

Thanks for the update. I'm heading out for Baja tomorrow in my thirsty diesel motorhome. Fuel prices look a lot better in mexico.

Just get south a ways before filling up... stations in the 'border zone' (20 kms. south of the border, not just border crossings) have prices matched
to California.

Filled up today...here in WA (Olympia area) gas was 2.95 for regular, 3.05 for mid-grade and 3.15 for Premium....it's creeping back up there as we get
closer to Memorial Day and the summer.
Whenever I hear that rainy, chill wind blow. I think it may be time to head for Mexico. Tengo que obedecer mi corazon!

I always wonder about these cost of gas posts, are you not going to travel if gas goes up a bit, or or you going to hurry and go if it's cheaper? I
never look at the price, if I need gas I will have to buy gas.

I wonder the same when I read road conditions requests... like are they going to cancel a Baja trip becae of some pot holes in Hwy. 1 or slow going to
Gonzaga?
Road conditions in a trip report, after Nomads come back are fun to read, however.

No doubt fuel is cheaper in Baja. Just saying that it is not the posted price because you NEVER get the posted quantity.

i buy premium in baja as its cheaper than regular at home and with 100's of pounds in the back of the truck the added octane helps. sometimes i wonder
if it matters?

It is interesting that diesel prices have gone so high in Mexico, as diesel used to be way cheaper. Same in California, of course, but I would think
that Mexico would be more sensitive to the truckers, since they have virtually no rail service and everything is moved by truck.

Gas prices don't influence if I go or not. Knowing the prices does help when I budget for the trip and I purchase Pesos.

I remember as a child when Diesel was well under the price of Petrol. I bought a 1964 Diesel 88 Land Rover for my Baja ride. My fuel budget was less
than my beer budget. Ah fond memories.
