Mini-Visit to Anza Borrego

Yesterday on our way to El Centro, we quickly drove part way up Coyote Canyon, in Anza Borrego--we could not take any hikes as it was too hot for the dogs in the truck. (They were why we were headed for El Centro---still like the Vet out there.)

Thus, we were limited in what we could see, but it was beautiful. Terrible, terrible time for pictures---mid-day, not a cloud in the sky, and lots of dust in the air---oh, and tripod managed to not get packed.

So, with all the disclaimers,:lol: here are a few images we decided to keep. They were taken by both of us

And my favorite flower that I saw as I have never seen this one before, or at least never noticed it.

They had 7" of rain this year

Thanks for looking

Great work, Diane!

I like your first three the most. But the 2nd one is really special. I'm going back to look at it some more. It's that shallow depth of field that makes it. The darker background in the first one really makes the flowers jump out, doesn't it?

Maybe this thread will turn into a flower showcase. It certainly encourages me to take the camera along this weekend.

We thank all of you. And glad you enjoyed them

Skipjack, yes, I like the background in the first one, and I was pleased with the shallow depth of field in the second one, but I always see some things that I wish I had done a little differently. Guess we need to go back. :-)

That second image is wonderful, Diane. The flower goddess smiled on you that day.;D

All your pix are good, fun for this flower floozie to see. I did not make it to Anza-Borrego this year, so I especially thank you for the great views.

Thanks Nena. The quick trip made me even more anxious to return to BA and many of the same wild flowers grow in our front yard in BA and there are no crowds.

Best directions

Sorry in advance for Hi-Jacking this but I have a question that sort of relates to Borrego Springs.

Around April 7th I am departing Loreto in my 30-foot RV going to Borrego Springs. I assume I come up highway #3 and cross at Tecate. What is the best way to get from Tecate to Borrego Springs without doing a lot of mountain climbing? I have map quested it and it makes no sense.

Thanks for your replies

Can't really avoid the mountains, but then again, you will be in the mountains driving to Tecate. There are a few options---but mountains are a part of all of them.

Which way is Map Quest suggesting??

Is that last one S3? Looking at my map, I think it might be---can't see the fine print real well these days.

Actually, it does not sound like a bad way to go-----there are others, but none of them are direct and all of them involve mountains. This does appear, I think, to be the most direct coming from Tecate.

Have a great time and take lots of photos.

Diana

If it was me, I would take CH94 east from Tecate and then intersect I-8 and take it down to S-2. Then north on S-2 to CH 78 east and then north again on S3.

The Tecate grade on 8 is long and gradual which I find much better than negotiating lots of windy mountainous roads that steal mpg. Also much more relaxing.

The route it is describing will also be slower, IMO. And S2 is really nice. It has some short climbs but returns to straights pretty quick.

Why Borrego Springs? It will be a frickin' ZOOOOOOOO. If you dont need full hookups (and A/C will not be necessary this early in the year) there are better options, especially if you are a little adverturous. U2U me for some great, dry camping options with a large RV.

Why Borrego Springs?

Hook

It is our annual, internationally renowned, Bocce Ball tournament. About 25 of us get together for a long weekend where debauchery is the norm. This yearly event is just an excuse to throw back a few, play golf, BBQ and eat the women’s delicious side dishes. I will be coming from Loreto and it is not that much out of the way (what a great excuse) on the way home. One of the founding members of this foolishness owns a place in the Roadrunners Park.

I will definitely be I touch with ya for some other places to stay for another time

Thanks
Howard

Those are all good reasons to go to Borrego Springs. And I must say that, as developed campgrounds go, it is nice.

Have a great Semana Santa, Howard!
