Satellite
Years ago I bought a system from a guy in Rosarito and set it up in Ensenada. I called the provider and they told me how to go online and download
the forms. The seller (hopefully he had an account in his name), signs the form saying that he sold you the equipment and lists the serial numbers.
They then open your account and the service starts. If you don't know who owned the equipment, I would be cautious. Go online to hughes and see what
you can find.

There will be more knowledgeable Nomads to answer your questions but my understanding/experience with Hughes is you'll need a US address/location and
a credit/billing address. If there is a Hughes installer in your area it would be a lot easier.

here is the NEW cost
take a look
http://consumer.hughesnet.com/plans.cfm
the problem with "old stuff" is that it could be out dated
modems go out like light bulbs
so do the power supplys and
they are "special" no generic powersupplys work
hughesnet wont support a new account with a 6000 modem anymore
you have to have at least a 7000
the higher speed modem a 9000 needs a new radio
the radio on the antenna on "older" units corode
that means you will have to purchase a new radio
pretty hard when you are down here
be careful what you buy
it MIGHT be more trouble than it's worth
maybe a good buy for a "back-up" though

Don't I know that, Bob!
BTW: I had to get Vanda's brother to hand-carry a new modem on the plane. Shipping from US would have taken from 2 weeks to a lifetime.
