Wanted: Digital Projector
Well...We have a new idea for a small business venture and are in need of a cheap projector...
The kind that you can plug in to a computer/DVD player and show videos or slide shows with!
I have never had experience with any of these but have been looking on the internet a bit so if anyone has one for sale or has some advice as to what
to get and what to look for it would be much appreciated.
Thank you in advance!

LCD projector
Hi, Serena!
Maria here.
Mick says he'd love one also, but second-hand can be a problem due to the lightbulb lifespan. They tend to burn out (2 years is probably max. with
consistent use). Make sure you get an extra bulb and/or have access to acquiring them as needed.
He'd use an LCD projector in the classroom for teaching scuba diving theory and physics. As is, he uses a large tv screen as his monitor and writes on
a whiteboard.
You'll need one specific to your plans (I know, but I'm not tellin'.)
Perhaps you'd like to share your ideas with the Nomads.
btw, so good to see you and family this last week on our visit to Asuncion-- love it there with you! Hope to return very soon.

yes - some of them are spendy - i wanted until the $$s came down before i plunged on a DLP ceiling mount - but it was my 3rd ceiling projector for 2
homes over 17 years - i started with 3 tube CRT projectors from Panasonic and later Zenith.
when HD format became available off my dish in late 2006 and my Zenith CRT couldn't process the bandwidth i had to get a single lamp DLP. the picture
is mind blowing focal length set for my 110" diagonal letterbox screen.
you can buy a decent used set up for $500 in LCD mode which is very good - just not the smooth rolling of a DLP. And if it needs a lamp - well you'll
be good for a few years.

I've been looking into LED projectors. I'm off the grid so the low wattage LED is appealing, and the lamp life is much longer and they're less
expensive than others. Searches i've conducted shows costs in the range of $300-500.

Wow!
And here I thought I knew about techie stuff....guess not!
Thank you all so much for the info!
As Mulegena said, we have some plans which I will not yet spill, since I'd rather have things well on the way to being finished and rolling before I
spread the word, but I'm sure it's something everyone will enjoy!!!
More info is always appreciated and again if anyone is selling a near to cheap one please let me know!
As it's my first time working with a projector I don't mind using a second hand one, just in case I don't do something right and screw it up
Anyway, thanks a bunch for the info!

Just go into ebay, LCD project some cheap ones, also read about them. Some new ones as low as $250.

thanks all...sirena has been researching them on the internet but we thought we would seek advice from the great nomad gene pool for further thoughts
and suggestions. Plus ya just never know when someone we know might just have one or know someone who does...less risk buying a used one from someone
we know...(unless it's Pompano of course kiding amigo!)

I've been using DLP HD for the past 5 years. I've been buying Dell projectors, but there are many available. If you buy a used one the KEY thing is
the hours used on the bulb. (lamp, light source, whatever) They usually run 2,000 to 3,000 hours new, so if you buy a used one make sure the bulb
hours left are high. They are expensive but coming down. I bought my last lamp on eBay for $145.00. I keep a back up lamp because you never know when
it's going to"pop". I'm into my third year on this one and it's still very bright.
If you do not buy a good one (powerful contrast ratio etc) you will have to have a very dark room. Their one weakness is they are not good in a bright
room. Check out well before you buy.
I have a 10 foot diagonal screen in High Def and would not trade it for anything. Sports of course are awesom. The IMAX and DIScovery stuff
unbelievable, and of course HD movies can't be beat. I will never buy another box type or wall type TV again.

Fred-o is spot on, once you have tasted front projection via DLP and in HD - on a LARGE letterbox or 16:9 aspect screen you will never want to watch
DVD, Blu-ray movies or sat based programming on a small direct view, even 60" + or whatever.
