Self Home protection

I've read all kinds of stuff on how to protect your self and what is legal. Never crossed my mind to use Wasp spray. Heck, you could have it on the seat in the truck and no one would question you. Here's what I just received:

For those who would not shoot an assailant with a firearm, try this!
Personally, I'm not shy about expeditiously inviting an unwanted intruder to meet Jesus!

Subject: Wasp Spray

I know some of you own GUNS but this is something to think about...---

If you don't have a gun, here's a more humane way to wreck someone's evil plans for you. Did you know this? I didn't. I never really thought of it before. I guess I can get rid of the baseball bat.

Wasp Spray - A friend who is a receptionist in a church in a high risk area was concerned about someone coming into the office on Monday to rob them when they were counting the collection. She asked the local police department about using pepper spray and they recommended to her that she get a can of wasp spray instead.

The wasp spray, they told her, can shoot up to twenty feet away and is a lot more accurate, while with the pepper spray, they have to get too close to you and could overpower you. The wasp spray temporarily blinds an attacker until they get to the hospital for an antidote. She keeps a can on her desk in the office and it doesn't attract attention from people like a can of pepper spray would. She also keeps one nearby at home for home protection. Thought this was interesting and might be of use.

On the heels of a break in and beating that left an elderly woman in Toledo dead, self defense experts have a tip that could save your life.

Val Glinka teaches self-defense to students at Sylvania Southview High School . For decades, he's suggested putting a can of wasp and hornet spray near your door or bed.

Glinka says, "This is better than anything I can teach them."

Glinka considers it inexpensive, easy to find, and more effective than mace or pepper spray. The cans typically shoot 20 to 30 feet; so if someone tries to break into your home, Glinka says "spray the culprit in the eyes". It's a tip he's given to students for decades.

It's also one he wants everyone to hear. If you're looking for protection, Glinka says look to the spray. "That's going to give you a chance to call the police; maybe get out." Maybe even save a life.

Please share this with all the people who are precious to your life

Did you also know that wasp spray will kill a snake? And a mouse! It will! Good to know, huh? It will also kill a wasp.!!!!

This part of that article wasn't encouraging... who wants to test it?

"To my knowledge, no one has ever tested or documented the effectiveness of insecticide sprays for self-defense.

One reader who accidentally received a dose of wasp spray while using it around his home told me he was surprised at how little irritation he felt. "A gust of wind caused a good splash of the spray to come right back into my right eye," he wrote. "I panicked and started to run to a source of water, only to find there was no adverse reaction at all, no more than being squirted with a water pistol. It took me at least ten seconds to get to the water, and I rinsed it off, and never felt anything from it."

I FOUND THIS ON SNOPES

http://www.snopes.com/crime/prevent/waspspray.asp

I have had this stuff in my truck since 2007 when I go to see Mama. I may have to reconsider and get pepper spray. Is pepper spray legal for US Citizens to carry in Mexico?

It seemed like a good thing but I guess if it's going to pee someone off when tthey're intending to do yo wrong it may not be the thing to use. I THINK there is bear spay to shoots out some distance. May wrap it is a wasp label would avoid any hassles south of the boarder.

Russ,

Thanks for the link on Bear spray. If it works on bears I would hope it will give you enough time to get away from a human attacker. A 35 feet spraying distance is a long way.

How about a can of that wasp spray, I think it sprays about 30 feet and is available at Home Depot. I'm sure a shot of that stuff in the face would slow down an attacker.

Dear Atacker;
Hold still whilest I deploy my handy dandy wasp spray into your eyes.
Now open your eyes and hold still from 35 feet so I can hit you with this stuff.

Personally I'd have a better chance of brining Mel Gibson with me to ward off any attacks.

Is Mel staying at Club Mareno during this fiasco?

I also read about 10 other sites about wasp spray, and it may not be legal to use on people. However, I'll take that chance. Including http://www.snopes.com/crime/prevent/waspspray.asp.

The other sites said this stuff can kill, or permently blind the victim of the spray.

I posted the site because it is word for word what Russ originally posted.

I have bear spray and it is some bad stuff. Totally illegal in Mexico and CA as well. It's legal in states with bears. It is legal in WA, ID, MT, AK, and WY for sure.

I have used it on bad dogs, and they basically stop, drop and roll as they howl in pain. You would not want to use this in your house it is for outside only.

when I lived in MT we had a customer at the flyfishing/backpacking store I worked at while in college, accidently shoot one off for about a 1 second blast. We had to shut the store down for a week, until the place aired out.
Everyone in the store breathed the stuff and it hurt like hell.

This stuff is 2.5 times stronger than what the cops carry.

The best part is that it dies the attacker orange and it takes about a week to were off. If the guy in BV had this he could have hosed down all 4 and then went to work with his boot.

In the WW-2 movies, I used to like watching the gawd-awful damage that could be done with a flame thrower.
Maybe, by adding a little bit of pressure and messing with the nozzle on one of these, you could have a flame thrower of your own:

When I was in Jr. high in science class, we had a large class and there were not enough wall mounted bunsen burners to go around. So the teacher set up a couple with the propane canisters used for soldering torches.

when cranked up these would shoot about 10 feet. I got suspended for 3 days for burning the hair off the rightside of one of my classmakes about 8' away! The classroom sure did stink with all that burned hair!!:lol::lol:

dennis, to make a flame thrower with that you'd just need to remove the regulator, and straight line the gas. maybe enlarge the tip diameter a hair.

WOW....Sounds a lot like the BP disaster. Would the torch valve be able to hold the pressure?

Just carry a stun gun and it will let you take care of those trying to victimize you. You can get them to look like cell phones or other lesser noticed things. However, they will put your attacked down just by touching them. They are legal in California and many other States and again it allows you to get away and puts them down while your doing it,. Be sure and get the one that puts out close to 900,000 units of pain for the attacker, which ensures you get some kind of pain for your efforts passed on the your attacker,LOL. Is it legal in Mexico, well I have seen several down here just as I have seen pepper spray on keyholders. Get the cell phone one and stop 2nd guessing yourself but stay safe. It's not like the crook who is trying to do you harm is going to get too much help from police that probably have dealt with the jerk many times before. Later----------------------- bajafun777
