Attempted Burglary Saturday Night, Rosarito

A report from Mr. GJ, “About 12:00 pm, Sunday morning, the alarm went off at our neighbour’s house. It rang for a good 30 minutes, and I was about to get dressed and go turn it off and reset it. I have done this before with our dog; I turn the dog loose inside to do a quick search of the house. The dog is trained to corner any person encountered then start barking.
The alarm company called and asked me if I would check the house. I replied that the house was not on fire, but it was their job to do the security check. I told them that a work crew has been in and out recently and may have left something out of place.

I went back to bed. Half-an- hour later, our dog came and woke me quietly. He usually wakes me punctually at dawn, so I could not figure out why he wanted me up at 2:00 am. I get up and head out, and I notice the door to the guest room was quietly closing. It was about the last 6” of closing when I noticed the handle moving and closing quietly. I looked inside and saw nothing, so I went back to bed.

Next day, a neighbour told me that a man had come from our property headed towards hers; they yelled for help from someone else. The prowler turned around and ran back across our property and disappeared into the darkness.
In the daylight, I discovered that two of my patio doors had been jimmied.

During the interview with the police, I learned that there has been a string of robberies in the area. They think it is a gang of three or four men and that they work in teams; if the alarm for one house goes off they proceed to rob other houses while the residents are distracted and upset about the alarms.”

(NOTE: Mr. GJ commented that I had made this report “not as scary” as the event was and that it didn’t reflect the terror we felt when we realized the extent of what had happened, or how mad we were and still are at ourselves in being so slow on the uptake and reacting to what did and what else could have happened to us. Trust me- we are kicking ourselves in our collective butts about that.)

Glad no one was hurt, Jan. Sounds as though it was a learning experience. Be careful.

do your doors and handles often move on their own?

seems like a moving door and handle turning on its own would register a thought such as "there must be a ghost or burglar behind that door!"

i think most of us would not have simply gone back to bed,...

I don't think you can anticipate or plan a proper reaction to everything in life. You can call it fate or luck, however you want to look at it.

GJ....You are one of my favorite nomads and I am sure others feel the same. Glad you and your family are ok albeit shaken.

Yes, one can prepare for such things, but how you react when it happens is often not what you had planned to do...........

Neighbors alarm going off, your door closing with the handle moving, your trusty dog (out of character) wakes you a 2:00AM. Too much wine or you don’t rattle easy. Glad your OK.

I'm glad all is well Jan. My house in La Mision was burglarized, along with many others. They caught the gentleman in a house in the ejido a month ago. Funny, no more burglaries since! Sure wish I had caught him:O:biggrin:

First of all, if this story is real I'm happy you are ok and nobody got hurt.:wow:

However, I find it hard to believe that you didn't investigate who closed the door and "so went went back to bed":?::?::?: Also no mention of anything being taken or moved:?::?::?: Pretty strange for a "dog trained to corner a person" to be so meek under this condition.

Sorry , I find this hard to believe. No offence Gypsy Jan, if you have that dog around for a "TRAINED GUARD DOG" I hope you saved the receipt from when you bought him cause it's time to take him back. Wish I cound just go back to bed after knowing a stranger had just been within feet of my bed while I slept thruogh it all. Next time maybe you should leave cookies and milk for him. Pleasent dreams :(:(:(

Unless as previously mentioned it was someone the dog knew and trusted. Not such an uncommon thing to happen nor believe.

Then why not find out WHO. But to " just go back to bed????
And if so, why post it here or anywhere if not to be just " piling on " to the media hysteria that is so popular now.

Sorry again if I'm wrong.

But I'm just having difficulty believing the story as told. I have trouble with the dog's response and just going back to bed and nothing disturbed. I too think we better check on how many shooter glasses there are in the sink.
