Fuel prices / August 20th, 2010
New fuel prices, effective since August 14th, 2010...
Magna.............$ 8.13 pesos per liter
Premium..........$ 9.55 pesos per liter
Diesel..............$ 8.53 pesos per liter
These prices are in liters... since 1 gallon = 3.7854 liters and today (August 20th, 2010) 1 dollar = $12.30 pesos (+/-), we can calculate the
approximate price per gallon:
Magna.............$ 2.502 dollars per gallon
Premium..........$ 2.939 dollars per gallon
Diesel..............$ 2.625 dollars per gallon

For those traving south to Baja... I paid $2.99 for regular (87) today at Costco in Vista. Other station around San Diego Coastal range from
$2.95-$3.33.

Hmmm... I'm thinking I might uhh, need to go to Baja... because... hmmm I can get gas cheaper! Yeah thats a good excuse!

Last week in La Paz I paid $8.13 pesos per liter of verde when the local bank exchange rate was 12.62. That means that a gallon of gas cost $2.44
usd.

i usually spring for the premium as i'm fully loaded (the truck!) and the extra octane should help. it cost the same as regular NOB so no big deal.
seeing it in print though, i could splurge on some top shelf tequila with my savings if i went with regular...... hmmmm, decisions.....

Catavina prices
Paid 90 pesos for 2 gallons at Catavina last week from the guy with cans on the highway.
Pricey, but glad he was there.

i had a marketing class once when "dinos" roamed the earth
the professor was a vice president of texaco...
he LOVED that people bought premium
extra profit for his company
unless the car manufacturer states the enging should ONLY run on premium you should ONLY buy regular

OUr Toyota needs the premium when going up the steep grade coming out of Sta.Rosalia or the engine knocks too much...we always buy rojo when going to
Sta.Rosalia or hauling a load...it really improves performance of a small engine.

I have to agree with Shari. My 1997 F250 always "pinged" like crazy after a Magna fillup in Mulege while climbing the grade out of Santa Rosalia or
the big grade going south of Nopolo. Starting putting premium in at the Mulege station about three years ago. No more pinging on either grade!

You didn't top of at El Rosario southbound or Villa Jesus Maria northbound?
Seriously, it is nice to know fuel is at Cataviña. We bought 5 gallons for $16 last month ($3.20/ gallon) from some girls manning the cans for
Alfonso... accross from the hotel.

Right... if the gas is low octane, then changing the timing will help... If the timing is bad, then good gas won't help.
Remember NOVA (79 octane leaded gas, rated as 81 octane on the pump)... 1974 to the late 80's??? Extra was the unleaded 87 octane gas sold alongside
it where available.
Man, when Nova was the only gas... we had to add octane booster, old fashion moth balls, or retard the timing to preven pre-ignition (pinging).
No-va means "doesn't go"... a good name for the poor gas!
Extra changed to Magna Sin, and Premium was the new grade... but only sold in cities.

The Driver didn't bother to stop, and he knew better...
Always stop and top off your tank at El Rosario or Guerrero N./Villa J.M., always ya' gotta do this!
The man I bought from was just north of the hotel near where Mr. GottaPeso usually sits (he hasn't been around lately, anybody know how he is?)
