Update on burned out family

Update (from 8-8-09 below)

Jaime and I visited Maria and Palo Montiel at their home on 9-14-10 and found things much changed since our last visit...their home is completely re-built except for the tile for the roof...They hope to have this completed before the end of October. It was a kick to visit with this “Oh so positive folks”

Right in the middle of our conversation Maria interrupted and asked us to THANK ALL OF THOSE PEOPLE, on the Board (The Nomad Board) for all the help they had given her family...YOU SHOULD HAVE SEEN THE SMILES they would have charged your batteries for sure.

The family is doing wonderful and all of you who helped should feel very proud. Drop by and visit them if you get the chance.

Jaime, Keri, and I visited the burned out site of Maria Montiel home site (her beauty parlor is in La Mision) and her family which was located at the south end of the de Tigre grade about ten miles or so south of La Mision. I stress was because there is nothing left except the walls.

As we pulled up Maria was feeding the chickens and looking for two of her cats that she fears perished in the blaze. A most sad site but somehow it was brightened by two tender caring people who are determined to rebuild their home—they sure will be in need of many helping hands to do this—that it will be done they are sure—and the three of us had that feeling also as we delivered the first, hopefully of many, carloads of stuff to replace a bit of what they had lost.
Towels, blankets, clothes, household goods, etc, etc…

Smiles abounded and it was a most good feeling which we all shared. Gotta tell you I thought Jaime was nuts when I saw some of the ‘stuff’ she had packed…trash bags, CHAP STICK, shampoo…the pack of chap stick was the first thing seized upon immediately applying some to her smile. Her husband, Polo, put the trash bags to instant use in cleaning up burned articles.

Noproblemo2 hit it on the head when describing Maria—“Maria, the patron saint of kindness, love, support, and generosity, unmatched in this World, is in need of help after this tragedy.”

Hey! We are going to need the help of all you good Baja Folks to help put this wonderful family back into their home. We’ll need cash, donated goods, as well as some helping hands to accomplish this. There is sufficient land around their place to park a few campers for the work parties and laughs that will accompany the helping hands…Let’s think hard on this…

Tragedy could be turned into fun and smiles with just a little effort on the part of more than a few of us Baja Nomads.

thank you for the update.

Sometimes we do things from afar and don't get a chance to see/hear how things are going for those whom we try to help in a small way. It's good to hear the family is coming along well.
