fish growth rates
I saw this in the latest Chubasco from Vagabundos del Mar - a one pound bull Dorado was place in a warm water tank at Sea World and eight months later
it weighted thirty-five pounds! Believe it or else....

In the open ocean, at times, during it's life, the dorado grows by 10% of if's body weight PER DAY. Add that up >>>> first day, 1 pound,
second day 1.1 pound, third day 1.21 pounds....just reverse the Weight Watchers formula. A 30 pound bull dorado can be under 2 years old.

Wonder what they were fed and how much to attain that weight? Now all they have to do is isolate the growth gene, then......

I once read in a fishing magizine that catfish in a catfish farm gains 1lb for each pound of feed it's fed. It was a comparison used relating to
different farm animals and feed cost. This was several years ago when catfish farms were taking off.

That's an efficient use of feed. Dorado must be right up there with 'em.

I believe a dorado has about a 5 yr
life span. I was camped at Muertos Bay
so. east of La Paz yrs. back, a free diver
from one of those So Cal based clubs,
brought in some kind of Grouper which he said
the age could be read off the scales similar
to ageing a tree, the fish was 35 yrs old,
same as me at the time, I didn't feel good
about that. This fish swimming around
Ceralvo Isle for yrs. The black sea bass of 300 #
may be 75 yrs old
