Got a month to kill, Hmmm what to do, Baja!!!

The wife has a month off mid December to mid January so Baja here we come!!! Didn't think we would get to go this year because the Real Estate market still sucks and I am truly "Broker" so money will be tight but I think we can pull it off.
We will be bringing the camper and Trophy and plan to act as true Nomads and wander the peninsula from TJ to Cabo, any suggestions on free to cheap places to camp are most welcomed, we already know some this will be our 11th year, but new is good .
I really would like to meet some nomads this trip, been on the board for quite awhile and some of you seem like my kind of Nomads.
Any fishing reports are good also even though I constantly monitor the threads.:bounce::bounce::bounce:
Yipeeee Baja bound.

Go to one of the major places and take a overnight camping trip.

Mike99km, The whole trip will be a big camping trip, we will probably stay in BOLA a few days and then Mulege, Puerto Escondido, Tecolote, Todos Santos (Friends beach house) then Cabo or who knows, were open to new ideas.

you might like San Roque for free camping...gorgeous beach and you can put your Trophy in at the cove where the lobster boats launch from...good yellowtail fishing just up a few minutes and bass fishing at San Roque Island...very mellow, relaxing camp with nice fishermen...good graded road...only 12 km from Asuncion...would love to drink some tecate with ya!!

Our camping route we take

Do take a fishing platform kayak with you if you are a fisherman! I have great spots for fishing along this route (below) for use of kayak and or sm boat. U2 when time comes and I'll give you some GPS locations for outstanding fishing.

Puertecitos: hot spring baths, decent campsite

Gonzada bay: great sand, motel, fishing. Hiking is endless on the animal trails.

Punta Final: fishing, snorkeling, incredible hide away.

BoLA: non stop things to do here! Camp at Daggetts. Fish at an area called "Los Candeleros," 30 some miles away. Whoa! Clam'n on north bay shore is awesome.

Bahia-Asuncion: fishing, swimming, snorkeling, diving, surfing and whale watching are world class. We be going to shari's for a few weeks in June. www.bahiaasuncion.com

Below these spots, I cannot say. Always jumped over by plane to the Cape.

I'm sorry, I was thinking to jump on the boat for a couple of days. Getaway to a beach of your own. There are some islands at you can go to, also the outside islands at Mag Bay. It might be a little than the standard trade routes.
I would offer Mag Bay as a great spot anyway.

after San Roque, come and camp on the La Bocana point (Bocanita) ... the view is gorgeous, shore fishing is great and you can get a glimpse of what small town life is like on this part of the Pacific.

I recommend you go to Joaquin's for dinner one night - his meals are beyond amazing. Lobster is on the menu til end of February !!

If you like mountain biking, we have 2 trails, if you like kayaking, there is a lagoon with good fishing, if you like surfing, Abreojos is 10 miles away, if you like drinking beer and want to catch up on emails - our front porch can't be beat !! Do your emails while watching the birds nosedive into the ocean like I am right now !!

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh such a good life. come check it out.

How big is your boat?

The Trophys I see around here are large boats that require a launch ramp. Is that the case with your boat as well?

looks as though you may be referring to a Trophy truck. Never mind.

Mood: After 34 years. Still in love w/ my wife

First place comes to mind, is Rattlesnake Beach, behind Tripui (Puerto Escondido) beginning with the "northern end of the road" where you can watch the boats coming in & out. Invite the boating community to 'dingy' over to your beach & have a bar b que with the days catch. campfire time is always fun. Or, take a right at the fork, and go south along the beach choosing the best camp sight that is available. and there used to be maybe at least 20 camp sites. some you back in. Others you drive in.
In Dec. you should be o.k. with choices. (unless the gov't has closed it down since the last time we were there. Happy camping. Maybe go down to Aqua Verde if you haven't in those ll years you've gone down. Well worth the trip, depending upon how passable the road is. Go up to San Javier, find a place to park, and visit with the villagers. visit the church.
(just a few ideas for you) We'll be down in mid Nov. & back early Dec.
Miss the hanging out down there, and seeing our friends. report back your experiences.

In BOLA, go past Daggets and on to Punta La Gringa. Very few people, nice cobble beaches, excellent clams.

Shari you and Juan are at the top of my list of Nomads to meet, we have never been to Asuncion but really want to see.
Our boat is a 20' trophy so a ramp is the only way i have launched so far. We have the trailr boating Baja book so I think I'll thumb through it again.
Phil S I have been to rattlesnake but haven't camped there yet it's was one of the places on my list. The port was $17 in/out last year I think but then I got kicked off the water for no braclet, where do I get one and what do they cost? The park ranger last year was pretty cool and did'nt make too big a deal he just told me to go in and don't come back without one.

you can get a bracelet in guerrero negro, if you let me know in advance, I will have the son of the owner of MARIO'S leave one for you at Mario's Restaurant - which is the huge palapa restaurant found right BEFORE you arrive in guerrero negro.
you will love asuncion and you will have a blast with shari and juan and adrian and sirena and the baby and zoe and .... well .... you get the picture.

The bracelet is apparently what you get when you pay the fee to "use" the marine park, an easy identifier for the park rangers.

wooo hooo castaway...cant wait to meet you too...december should be good for launching your trophy at high tide at the cooperativa launch area...others have done it but make sure you have a local to help identify where the rocks are...most gringos ding a prop there as the opening is narrow.
We have the biosphere permits available here as well. They are 50 pesos a day but the yearly passport is a better deal if you plan to fish in any marine park in the country...I think it's around 250 pesos for the yearly pass...these you can get at the Reserva office in GN...ask anyone where it is..it's like 3 blocks up from the main street in the midde of town...turn up at Lizardi's pizza place...see ya soon amigo.

you can get marine park passes in Loreto, at the marine park office on the malecon near the lighthouse. as mentioned, the yearly pass is a much better deal. the marine park passes are different from the biosphere passes, I think...the daily ones for the water are about 22 pesos/day.

reality\'s never been of much use out here...

the biosphere reserve passports are supposed to cover you for any marine park as well in the country...ie...loreto too. The daily 50 pesos permit receipt is a bracelet you are supposed to wear and you need it for any marine activities...whale watching, fishing, and on your kayak too...the vizcaino biosphere reserve encompasses turtle bay, la bocana, abreojos, asuncion, guerrero negro, san ignacio and I'm not sure about mulege.

A friend was checked the other day by the profepa officer here...he checked his fishing license and biosphere permit too....so heads up in this area. Enforcement is on the increase as we have a new officer based here now.
