Our first "home" in Baja

We had just acquired the lot a few months earlier. Construction was to start soon, so I bought this tin box to have as temporary quarters. This "microwave box" as we later called it.....was home for two years. No showers inside...so we would have to drive down to Pete's Camp.

So I call this our "first Baja home".

What was yours ?

I could not even stay in the box during May! Sleeping on the beach was my cool answer. The old trailer was given to our Aussie neighbor...when in turn took camping....further down the road. He loved it! :?:

The house took forever to get done. Issues with getting the power hooked up (almost 18 months). We love the place. Intentionally kept small, very dense landscaping, outdoor kitchen, and a campsite!

Older pics

These are 3-4 years old. I can find my 2010 CD :-(

What I call a "John Wayne" campsite. it has water, power, surrounded by dense foliage, the sandy lot is hardly visible now!. One thinks he is in the desolated desert.

The house, I designed that too. A simple to use / clean unit. Outdoor wash and kitchen. The layout of this house allows future add on s of three bedrooms if we wish. House is surrounded by shade trees as well as 24 trees surrounding the lot.

Will update a newer photo when the wife gets home tomorrow.

Was the outdoor brick oven worth the time and money and I assume it is wood fired? I have been researching several plans and considering one for myself. JH

Oh Yes!!!
From sweet potatoes to pizza.....I can bake just about anything. my favorite cooking fuel is dead ocotillo. What a kick!

I plan on taking down a few large boxes of Sugar Pine tree - pine cones for that extra smoky flavor. The cones are outstanding.

Practice baking potatoes till you learn how to control the heat in your new over ....I hate to see blacken ribs :-(

Your house and San Felipe are both beautiful. We chose BOLA because a friend owns the house next door and advised us that the tide changes are not as extreme for launching the boat as they are in San Felipe. So we ended up going in on a partnership with a friend. We still have about 5 years before husband can retire and then we plan on spending more time getting to know Baja.
