Keep An Eye Out For The Lost Finn!

This is our new amigo Matias who hails from Finland. He showed up at the Baja Bound office two weeks ago and was in the process of planning the Mexico
leg of his journey down into South America. I brought him down to the Dia de los Reyes event in Tijuana, which was his first time in Mexico, and he
loved it. I gave him as much advice as I could and told him to visit Baja Nomad if he had any questions or needed guidance during the journey. This
morning he crossed the border and is heading for Ensenada for a few days. He is going to get his Spot tracker enabled, so I will post updates as his
journey progresses. You can also follow the journey on his website: Lost Finn

I met Matias at the toy drive and he is a great guy! Geoff brought him along and he was a great hit with the kids.
If you see him please take the time to share your Baja fun.
Gracias,
Scot

Dunno if anyone else has encountered Europeans in Baja, but we've had the pleasure several times. Last time was a couple from Austria who had started
at the tip of Argentina and were hellbent to make it up to Vancouver before flying home. They spent two years on motorcycles. We ran into them at San
Ignacio Lagoon, where we shared a panga. What was most interesting to me about this couple was, although being from Austria, and speaking impeccable
English to us, they made me feel oh so bad as they spoke impeccable Spanish to our hosts. Just seems to me all the more reason that US schools should
spend more money and time teaching foreign languages.

The Lost Finn is on the move......here is his ride from yesterday where he averaged 6 mph. Definitely must have been some rough trails!

This loop on the map.....whats so special about that area?
Old people are like the old cars, made of some tough stuff. May show a little rust, but good as gold on the inside.

All dirt roads in Baja go to someplace really cool... I wish I could live long enough to drive them all! Howard Gulick did in the 1950's and early
1960's and wrote the Lower California Guidebook (with historian Peter Gerhard)... Naturally, there were fewer roads then... but no paved ones
connecting the north and south ends.

I honestly have no idea what is out there. Suffice to say, Matias said he was looking forward to riding the roughest trails he could find. I don't
think Baja is going to disappoint!

He just arrived in San Felipe! It must have been a pretty cold ride considering this wind and low temps we are having.

Howdy to you all!
Yep, first of all, Geoff thanks for everything. You guys are awesome... So are the rides down here too!
The small half a day loop in Ensenada used to be part of the Baja 1000 course and had some nasty terrain to deal with, loved it all the way, don't go
there for wine though. And you better have your 4WD set to LOW.
All the riding so far has been more or less off road and sometimes not even haven't have a single trail to follow, just the old map that I have, it's
just perfect. The ride to Mikes via Coyote trail was the hardest trail I've ever ridden, man it was scary, don't go there with fully packed dual
purpose bike.
After Mike's the road was just perfect, hauling ass about 40-60 mph on perfect dirt is so much fun. Camped on the beach here in San Felipe and now
heading down for a little bit and camp before starting to Los Angeles via Coco's Corner.
Take care you all,
Yours,
M
