Baja 1000 pre-run......
I did a pre run of the 500 race ...(most of it anyway).....this past June and had a blast.....want to do the same with the 1000....any Nomads want to
join in doing this.....I am thinking of the start and go until BOLA ......need support people and help getting the truck/trailer to BOLA for the
return trip... I have a two seat buggy for the ride...maybe a 3-4 day event....who wants to join?.....
A pre run is done on the actual race course at safe speeds and is more about seeing things and the adventure of the trip....motorcycle...buggy or 4wd
truck would be best for this....and yes all the roads are open to anyone who wants to drive them as they are the same roads used every day by the
locals....

Pre-running
Jim,
I would encourage you, in the strongest of terms, to use great caution if you are pre-running for fun anytime close to the race event.
You refer to it as driving the course at "safe speeds"
I logged thousands and thousands of pre-run miles, very few of mine, or others who were serious, were at anything resembling "safe speeds"
Pre-running slowly never shows you the areas of difficulty, and pre-running is a large part of the time and effort needed to get your reflexes and
driving reactions in tune.
And never, never, never, drive backwards on the course in the days close to race time.
We tore the whole side off a Baja Bug in the forest who was just 'fun running' the weekend prior to a race. Not fun for him or for us.
(I seem to remember that the SCORE entry blank and web-site specifically requests that only registered drivers be on the course in the days prior to a
scheduled race. Not sure how fair, or enforceable that might be, but it is a good admonition.)

The Course..
You will not have a "marked" course to run on, until mid-October. Sal is leaving to start tying ribbons after the Offroad Expo in Pomona.
In the past some teams will start their pre runs only a few days behind Sal as he works his way south.
My plan is to hook up with Sal when he gets to Loreto, and then continue down to La Paz to complete the markings. There is some controversy over the
last 30 miles into La Paz, and a new route some of the BCS racers want SCORE to take It will all get sorted out over a few Pacificos down south.

I'll be doing a motorcycle pit during the race. I don't know where yet but I would like to do some prerunning at least in the area where I'll be
pitting.
Thebajarunner is right about being safe on a prerun. Always keep an eye on your mirror for those coming up behind you. Keep your windows down to
listen for engine noise. The single line tight twistie areas are the worst. From San Felipe down (if that's the side they go down) the course is the
main road for the locals and one would hope the prerunners would be a little more careful. I remember in 87 or 88 Ida meling (I think that was her
name) had her ranch hands armed with rifles to block the prerunners and racers because prerunners had knocked her fences down and left the gates open.
But the worst for her was when a prerunner car passed her on the observatory road and threw rocks all over her car. Score had to get the Federales
involved to keep her from stopping the race. After that it was a long time before Score ever ran on her property again.

i want to compare it for flight planning this year.

Baja 100 Prerun
Surfer Jim, Give me a date and I will run support for you. Where exactly do you plan to start? I live at KM 54 Souith of San Felipe on the edge of
Matomi Wash, not much to prerun till you are past Puertecitos. Anyway depending on the exact date I will bring your truck & trailer to BOLA. The new
course leaves Puertocitos behind the old police station in town and then down that long deep canyon.

on the way south.

Would like to start at Ensenada.....get to the San Felipe area for the overnight stop....and then the next day to BOLA....spend the night there and
then come home....would need gear/sleeping bag/food/ect for the San felipe stop.....and then have the truck /trailer for the overnight at BOLA and
ride home...

Baja 1000 Pre-run
OK, Sounds good, suggest Coronado Motel in Ensenada if meeting night before, or the big propane plant east of town for an early start.Overnight at my
place KM54 S on 5 for Cajun Tacos. I am KD7YLX and have race radios or CB for comms. Work out your dates and fuel stops and let me know. Anyone else
going to join in on this? Good for Quad or MC too!

looks like we'll hop the race starting at gonzaga for sure and maybe ignacio and san juanico, anybody watching at those spots we'll see you there,
mainly gonzaga i guess though. then on to La Paz and the fiesta thurs thru the night.
