San Felipe airport for commercial traffic

Another positive development is that a major obstacle in the use of the airport for commercial traffic has been resolved. For many years there has been a land ownership dispute with the Government on who owns what. This has now been resolved and it opens up the probability that the long-term development of the infrastructure to receive larger planes can proceed. As I have frequently mentioned, air service to Mexicali with continuation to hubs such as Las Vegas and technology centers such as San Diego will open San Felipe to a whole new world of tourism, research, education and convention activity.

don't hold your breath on this - comm'l routes to MMSF have been tried for years and they all lost their a$$.
MMSF will be only a GA facility for many years to come.
bottom line - no demand.

I know :lol::lol::lol:

The land ownership dispute is a little break thru. More walls to knock down yet to come. I say a real airport wont happen for 20 years

As capt mike says, I can remember flights coming from
San Diego, maybe Browns Field, passenger flights,
they weren't around long. Development in SF will
be WAY into the coming yrs. Honestly, Conventions
in SF? I think we are all going to be able to enjoy
SF the way it is now, for a long time to come

Been through 2 or maybe 3 tries and no go - not enough passengers. Have to have a very regular bunch to make it worthwhile to fly in/out even twice a week.

Which I think is great! While I want the economy to grow and recover in San Felipe, I don't want it to become like a lot of other Mexican towns that have grown and lost their charm. I like San Felipe small and without any of the chain restaurants etc. that come to Mexico when a lot of tourist begin to go there.

Too bad that huge convention center sits idle!

Seriously, there is a yin and yang thing to consider. For many folks, the retarded development of San Felipe ( and I use that term is the best possible sense) has allowed the area to maintain the ambience that drew so many to it in the first place.

Puerto Penasco has welcomed development and the result has been a bunch of condos and a major time share development (Mayan Palace).

People of San Felipe. Which would you prefer?

I prefer San Felipe to stay quiet! I like it that way which is why I built a house and plan to live there. I do wish things would pick up and be better...it is sad to see so many empty businesses and we worry about friends there who have lost their jobs due to the economy and the worries about safety that has caused some people to stay away.

Well, if it takes 20 years then I'm OK with it...by then I won't want to drive the gauntlet through Mexicali to get back into the states!!!:tumble:

No, seriously. Get on google and check it out. Also, on the BluRay there was a special section on the disc about where they filmed different areas.

We were down at our casa when they were filming, although we didn't know it at the time. There was a small black fighter jet that was flying below the cliffs on the beach in front of our casa.
It wasn't until we saw the movie that we realized it was one of the jets from the movie.

What plot twist took James to that exotic international jet set city, San Felipe? The exotic casino full of Russian babes? The mega-billionaire's criminal lair at DK's Shell Island? The fish tacos?

If I'm correct, wasn't there a Casino of some sorts
kinda/sorta kicked around as being built so. of SF?
Maybe a couple yrs. back? I'm on board with the
idea of another 20 yrs. of SF the way it is now.
mcfez, You could open up the Boom Boom room,
you know across the pedestrian bridge, no. end
of the Malecon? Perfect Convention site

Actually.....we have looked into a beach club in San Felipe ! Not on the Malecon though. The market crash two years ago wiped that idea off the map. Currently a club is closed....the one one on the corner there across the street from the Taco Factory. I just wonder much much longer before the Crocodile dies.

The San Felipe area used in the second Bond film (with the new Bond) was the mountain southwest of town and the airport... Sadly, you wouldn't know it was shot in Baja instead of the plot's South American location except for the cardon cactus! No views of the coast or town of San Felipe are shown in the film that I recall.
