Have a question for the campers here. My son is arranging a client camp here. He wants us to attend.
Anyone, can you give me a write up on this touristy place? Txs.
Old people are like the old cars, made of some tough stuff. May show a little rust, but good as gold on the inside.

Hmmm.. I was there once. I live fairly close to it. Not my cup of tea. Its basically like a giant parking lot full of RV's packed super close....

we had an interesting....to say the least.....experience there once on the way down to Baja.
Yes, it can be packed to the gills with RV's and folks camping.
Yes, it's huge and very touristy.
But I will tell you that the security is fantastic.
We had set up camp across from a group with an RV and a tent....long story short, the couple got into a huge fight and the guy was screaming at his
pregnant wife to get the f closer to him so that he could burn her face off. Lionel had gone to take a shower, Erin was about 1 1/2 and asleep in the
tent, and I'm sitting at the picnic table TRYING not to look at them. He's yelling over and over, I'm sorry, come here, baby, so I CAN BURN YOUR FACE
OFF! then he sees me and says ~ what are you looking at? This is none of your business.
yeah, well, you are kind of making it my business. Needless to say, security was called and this lovely couple and the rest of their family was asked
to leave. They were gone in 15 minutes. Before Lionel even finished his shower.
So that's my experience in Campland. One night too many ~ but I think it may have had SOMETHING to do with the neighbors
the pools looked fun. but we didn't stay long enough to try them out.

I have stayed there many times with some friends who weren't ready for the real outdoors. The place is nice and clean. Full of RV's but there are
spots for tents. I'd stay there again, but I hardly call it "camping"

do not swim in mission bay. water quality is bad. the bay is like an urban lake. contaminated with urban runoff, sewage, dog sh*t, etc.
the state parks on silver strand or in carlsbad are better places to camp or RV.
i have no idea what a "client camp" is.

As usual Goat has nothing good to say about anything.
True, back Mission Bay has some urban runoff from the hills above but this is San Diego. Alot of bunny huggers live here and do a great job keeping
the environment quite clean. The bay is clean for swimming anywhere in Mission Bay. When it is not, which is rarely, the Water Quality officials will
notify you. It's A lot cleaner than the waters between from Ensenada to TJ.
I use to store my boat on a trailer in Campland for about 10 years about 8 years back. I have not looked at the rates lately but the best spots
overlooking the bay went for about $100/nite down to $30/nite to camp on a small plot of dirt. Campland is always busy cuz it is close to everything,
i.e. ocean, golf courses, shops, La Jolla and downtown with easy freeway access. It's hard to say its camping. More like parking your motorhome or
pupping your tent in a lot next to a bay. But hey, you're close to the action, have all the amenities (swimming pool, rentals, etc) and social
activities (bingo, etc.) to keep you and the kids busy. Even has a boat launch. http://www.campland.com/
There's another camping place adjacent to Campland that offers the same facilities and amenities. It's called Mission Bay RV Resort. http://missionbayrvresort.com/
So expect a zoo of people running around having a good time, lots of noise and friendly people. There's really no other place to camp close to the
action in San Diego.

It's an "experience" - it is what it is. How well you might like it depends on your expectation. A get-away-from-it-all it ain't. You actually
immerse yourself in it all - lots of people, children, rules, and a little pricey I think. And I'm sure there are also many little doggies peeing on
any available grass. You can rent paddle boats and take walks, drive to Pacific Beach to a restaurant or bar (or another beach). It's a slice of San
Diego, but not "camping" per se.

lobsterboy,
swim all you want in mission bay, i don't care.
i will not swim in mission bay.
do you really think the county health dept reports competent or truthful water quality tests?
the DEH reports what politicians and business leaders want you to read.
yes, the DEH occasionally reports about a sewage spill and closes a beach for a day, but only because they haven't found a way to bury evidence of
sewage spills.
mission bay is a closed bay with poor circulation, and the water quality is bad - swim there at your own peril, and if you don't like ear or sinus
infections, then stay out of the water.

It's all part of our environment, which has long term evolutionary impacts... on the species...
Take a swim...camp where ya want...
A place north, noisey crowed... San Onofre State Campgrounds.. they are located on the old Hiway ...
Best thing about the place... walk over the cliffs.. down the trails.. and ya get to a beach which is isolated and fishing is really pretty good...
perch, crocker yellow fin, large sand sharks and a few other things which come by on occasion..
Due to the hike, most don't go over the cliff and down, which leaves a beach, if you walk to the south or north from the trail head... in about 100 -
200 yards... you ALL by yourself all day...
Most folks just come down for a few hours... if you get down at 6 am... no one there... stay past 2-3 pm.. again your all by yourself...
The beach area is also used by the "folks" coming North... used to carry extra water and some sandwiches for those heading north... they were always
so socked when I offered them a place to sit down and take a break... and take a break .. withe added entertainment of someone fishing can catching
something...
One thing have found most everyone enjoys... the hookup, and the fight trying to get it landed...
Have fun, it's all good...
Plus they have a very large campground for large parties.. which has one of the better locations in the State Park...
Ya, can set it up online through the place ya get the tickets.. shows what's open and all the rest...
Like I said, the big down turn, your right next to the freeway ... if your in a tent.. it's a lot worse... but, it can be worked out... the further ya
go south within the park...
That said, bring everything with you, as no stores are close by...
We always like going over the cliff, I would pack in all down, shade, food , poles, bait, and some beer... and water...
Sometimes, would take the tent, and stay the night on the beach... they is no one there... and for the illegal's ... there trying to stay as low as
possible... I have never worried about them... and always found them ... like most all Mexican's... just people trying to find there way in life...
shelter, food, and money to send back home.. to help the family...
