SAN NICHOLAS STORY #1

Some time about 1973 I was spending every free minute at San Nicholas.
At nite I was sleeping near the back of a Pickup where Enrique's Wife Rachael was sleeping. During the night whe would wake me up Moaning in Pain with her Bad Teeth. I Tried to get Enrique to take her to the Dentisit to no avial.

One Day I wnet fishing and had a Dell of a Day!!! I caught 27 Feet{layed out side by side of yellowtail!. There was a guy from La Paz there and he gave me $171.00 for the Bunch. I gave the Money to Enrique and told him it was only for Rachael.

Shortly thereafter she went to the Denist.

NOw the Moral of the Story. Was it Right or Wrong that I caught those Fish and gave the Money for Rachel to get her teeth fixed!!

Did I hurt the Planet??

did you report the income on your tax return?

why did you exceed the allowable catch quota? you say you are an expert fisherman, but any expert fisherman would know that that amount of fish exceeds your daily allowable (unless they were all world record length fish!)

strange in this example I see a reflection of our Banks and Government ... as it relates to money... ya think they been playing by the rules ...

Only wish folks felt as strongly about OUR financial health .. as we seem to be depleting OUR SUPPLY forever .... aaaaaahhhhh that would be money...

skeet...through ALL of your ranting posts here, i must say you have, to a degree, screwed with baja negatively on many counts....the snakes, the overfishing, the transferrence of species...yeah...i think you probably have done more harm to this peninsula than good....you rave how you harvested, harvested, harvested for years and years...where are the stories where you put something back?....i don't see it...so yeah, i'm fed up with your consuming crap and how you think everything recovers...i think you are a taker and a taker only...i think you have your tiny little head up your burro...and that's not gonna change.

I'm not buying this story, Skeet. And I'm not taking your bait, either.

Mulegemichael:

There I was in Loreto going Fishing and bringing in Fish to Eat, Fish to Can, and fish for my Friends to feed their Family, when I heard that there was a Problem in Sequim WA.!!!

So my wife and I bought a Trailer and went to Sequim and seeing the needy People bough an Acre of Land on Falfa Lane near the Creek. There we proceeded to Contract to build a Nice house so that the Local Workers could make some Money,
It has a Great View of Hurricane Ridge and a short view of the Sound..
Sold out and made some money to take back to Loreto to spend, There I and my wife spent money on building Rancho Sonrisa all by Mexicano hands Mundo, Rodrigo, Bianco and others. {Giving back to the community}.

Back in 1973 there were no catch limits, so he likely didn't break any laws. I'm kinda new here, but it seems to me that Skeet often purposefully spins a story so as to raise the hackles of some folks, and then sits back and enjoys all the comments about how crazy (or genius) he is.

El Cap:

Right Cap there were no limits as the extra Fish you caught wnet to your Mexicano Friends and sometimes to the couple of Motels.

However, Around that time a groupt of Vetinam refugees from the States came down to Escondido and started catching and Cannin Fish by the Case. They were finally caught and for some time there was a Federal Guard at the entrance, checking everyone coming out,

I heard later that they ended up doing the same thing at the San Luis Dam lake near Los Bano Ca..

Just seems odd that all of a sudden you are coming up with all these instances where you helped so and so do this and that.

If you are trying to justify your continued (and celebrated) contribution to the problems on this planet (whether you believe that such problems are contrived or not) by helping a family or two, it doesn't work that way. It only makes your arm hurt by patting yourself on the back.

No Fam:

What happened between the time of my stories and Now??

What caused all of the Bull Puckey like Global Warming, The Ruined Sea of Cortez, The Specie Nuts:Snail Darter} The Salamon/True Cod Deal{half of all Salmon go to the Indians}
The Tree Nuts{One who set a tree for several years and on Leaving fell and Died},

What happened in the American Culture to cause these Lunatics/Nuts to start hollaring about Saving the Planet for their Grandchildren?

Sometimes it appears to me that it is a Lack of Intelligence.

These People seem to come about by Tearing Down and Blaming us older Folks for all their Problems. Never ever offering any kind o Solution but Just stop Eating Fish, Stop Building Houses of Wood,

Anyway you look at it, I cannot see "Saving it for our Grandchildren" a Solution to the Problems of DOPE, GREED, Lack of Education.

Well, you were someone's grandchild and you got to inherit the earth ~ why shouldn't my grandchildren enjoy that same gift (provided there is anything worth saving at that point).

I don't do dope.
I'm not greedy, nor rich in anything other that health, happiness and family.
I have a fair amount of intelligence, what with two degrees, etc, not to mention a wealth of information at my fingertips and whether you believe it is "bull puckey" or not, we, as humans, have done irreparable damage to this planet. I, for one, choose to do less damage and teach future generations to do the same.
