Sorry, I Have to Brag

My beautiful, lovely daughter wanted to give me a new stove because the eighteen-year-old GE electric was dying a slow death;the right hand side burners couldn't boil water, etc.

She paid for a GE Profile Induction-top Convection oven

Induction is very cool, but now will you need to run 220v to your kitchen? ;)

I was referring to the price of electricity over gas.

Just to Clear a Few things UP

The new stove is an Energy Star appliance, which means it uses less energy (yes, Dennis) than a gas stove.

It has an induction cook top that boils water in less than two minutes.

It has a convection oven that roasts a chicken in twenty minutes.

It is the Indianapolis 500 version of a stove.

hey Brian - i was a guest at a friend's home in Parker AZ recently and he had the big green egg. i never saw one before.
he had me do ribs on it.
they were ok, not as good as on my offset pit smoker at home but i can see where once used to it, it could have possibilities.
kind of a weber kettle on steroids.

i just went to a gas cooktop, Jennair Proline run by propane in my island kitchen.
gas is best.

Might still want to keep an eye on your electric bill. According to the Mfg. specs, the burners draw from 120 - 3700 watts. That's a whole lot of electric power. Energy Star does not mean it's cheaper than gas, only rates the appliance in relation to other similar types. Even with short cook times, that's still a lot of watt-hours. Just FYI

Hey Capt.,

It takes a little bit to get used to working with he BGE, it isn't the normal kind of smoker. But, that is the beauty of it! The versatility makes it great for all different kinds of cooking. Did pizzas the other night at 800 degrees and they cooked in just over 2 minutes. I do steaks at 500 and have done pork butts at 220 for 16 hours without lifting the lid. They have been around a long time but are only recently getting popular on the West Coast. There is a local rip off brand that they make in Tecate, but I have heard bad things about them.

The BGE is a copy of a Japanese Kamado. I had an original bought second-hand at a yard sale. Paid 50 bucks. Very efficient smoker. Used to do turkeys on it. Top got cracked otherwise I'd still be using it. I'd buy another one but the prices are outrageous.

ncampion is right. Energy Star does not mean it's cheaper or more efficient than propane. The process of producing electricity is only 30% +/- at the plug. Gas stoves are easily double that efficiency. Propane stoves are less costly to operate than electric. Congratulations on having such a wonderful caring daughter.
