Update on Juanita
A week in Best Western, shuttled back and forth across the border each day, She in a wheel chair, I booked a room at Hacienda del Rio.They were so
kind, accomodating, etc. Now, after a week with Dr.Calzada, he calls our room and says, come see me now.I can not help her.Get her to a good hospital
now, she needs a blood transfusion . The shuttle picks us up at the hotel. which is not protocol... Off to the Otay border, out of the van, back into
the wheelchair.People in the van rush forward to help us.I have two peices of luggage and her bag with meds .Three blocks later, we find the waiting
shuttle, but have to wait for the driver. He is in the bank, hassling with another driver, and he comes back, 15 mins later.Juanita cannot sit up
because of her whole body pain.We make it to my car I left at B. Western, I put her in the pasenger seat in prone, and I drive her to Mission
Hospital, ER, where she is now.MSI, Medical, they can't seen to push the paperwork thru. She is slowing dying.UCI(Irvine Med) has a bed for her .She
needs treatment yesterday!!!This is what she has.Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. This is only the beginning of this story. She had acute, severe Pneumonia
when I finllaly retreived her from SD airport.I took care of her for that week, and of course, I got acute broncitis.Got a Z pak, and have had her
children living with me.(They are 5 and 7)I am trying to be strong, but sure could use some help.Thats all I can write tonite.Thank you all for your
prayers and well wishes.I hate the California Medical system..She is dying and it is Friday. She has been there, blood transfusions, and they do
nothing,.,its friday they say.
Happiness is just a Baja memory away...

Sally, I am so sorry about Juanita. I know nothing about your family, but I have ideas.
If Juanita is a US citizen with a social security number, or has permanent residency, and has worked in the US at some time, she can apply immediately
for social security disability benefits. This can be done on the internet. There is an emergency procedure called "Presumptive Disability Payments"
which can get her some money right away. If she gets on Social Security disability, she will eventually qualify for medicare. Once on SS, her children
can qualify for supplemental income support benefits until they are 18.
Also, being that you are in California, the kids can qualify for "Healthy Families" medical insurance through the state. It is very cheap, something
like $10 per month for full benefits with a $5 co-pay.
Finally, I believe California's Medi-cal is for indigents who are residents of California. Start working on that if Juanita is a legal resident or US
citizen.

Very sorry for your anguish; it is palpable and heart-wrenching.
What is her white blood cell count right now? Has it spread to the central nervous system? It certainly sounds like it.
