Riviera Maya
Spent the last week in Riviera Maya at the Grand Palladium White Sands with my wonderful wife. She does not like going fishing in Baja with me (does
not like the drive :? . Hotel was great but the only times it really felt like
Mexico was when we were on the roads or in Playa Del Carmen shopping.The resort, rooms, food and everything were very Americanized/European. Took us a
couple of days to realize we had to ask for tortillas and even then they were from a bag and not fresh made. In Playa Del Carmen we went to a very
romantic restaraunt named Alux. It is in a natural cave complex that has it's own cenote. Gourmet food and awesome ambience. Also spent a day at
Chichen Itza, well worth a visit. The rest of the week was spent drinking and playing at the pool and the beach. All in all a great vacation!!!

Playa Del Carmen, eh? As an old timer, I can report that I first visited PDC when the town consisted of three buildings and a rickety wooden dock,
surrounded by the chicle tree jungle. It was basically off the grid.
My mind is blown by what has become of that area.
Over time, the Riviera Maya has morphed into the younger brother of the Cancun colossus.
Similarly, I recall going into Cancun City to find it rather quaint as opposed to the traffic clogged boulevards of today.
Our most recent visits to the area have found us heading over to Isla Mujeres to stay. Isla has certainly grown alot from the old days, but still
maintains a certain "Havana/ Key West/ Mexico ambience that greatly appeals to us.

Zetas were/are a proud US product that we shared with Mexico. A real bunch of diplomats.
I wonder if they'll take time out from their savagery tomorrow to give thanks for their inception.

Zetas don't bother tourists; it's bad for business since they have investments in the hotels etc.

If one thing the Zetas are known for, is not respecting absolutely any rules. I wouldn't even consider visiting any place where those people rule.
