Hello, Fellow Nomads

I posted under the wrong subject and I plead guilty after the fact, but I don't know how to move this post to the "Baja Events" category.

I am sure that the trusted Nomad administration will remedy my mistake.

Farmers market.

A farmer's Market in Rosarito? Great news to hear as we will be moving to the area in a couple of months; El Pescador. Now I need to find out if there is a big mercado nearby or if one has to go into TJ.

No need to go to TJ. Commercial Mexicana is a really big market, and there is also WalMart, in addition to Calimex.....

But I meant REAL mercados run by Mexicans with fruit and veggie stalls, chicken, fish, cheese, under one roof, not commercial stores. Most larger cities have them that are open daily for all one's needs. Still, if none in Rosarito, the new weekly Farmers Market will be great. I love shopping locally and it is good for the economy.

I'm thinking about making a move to Rosarito for a little while. I like organic fruits and veggies, or produce that isn't sprayed with pesticides and poisons.

Any info on these farmers markets in Rosarito? Any info on organic or high quality produce would be appreciated. Email is ckassin87@gmail.com

Thanks

There are outdoor street markets around Rosarito a few days a week. None are covered here though. One large one in TJ has perimeter stalls, but parking in the center.

No one. But sounds like there's zero organic in Rosarito haha.

Supposedly I heard the farmers here don't use pesticides because they can't afford them. Anyone know anything about this?

They export the best local produce I think. The new NAOS condos will have an organic restaurant- so there must be a supply, likely in TJ.

Jesse will know.

Farmers' market at Fiesta/Pescador and Bajamar

Twice a month, there is an open air and claimed to be organic Farmers' Market at Fiesta/El Pescador restaurant.

Here is the link to their website: http://fiestabaja.com/index.htm

Every Saturday there is an open air and claimed to be organic Farmers' Market at Bajamar.

Also, every Saturday and Sunday in Primo Tapia (Km 47 on the free road), they close several blocks down on the south side of town, off the main highway towards the ocean for a frre floating tianguis (open air market with produce and all kinds of merchandise - segunda (second hand items), toys, clothing, shoes, pizza vendors, tamale vendors, etc., etc. This is where the locals go to shop.

(EDITED) Here is a link to a story about living in Rosarito and the Bajamar Farmers Market. I haven't gone down there yet to check it out, but I will do so soon ;D

Thanks Jan.

Bajamar is the golf course about 40 min or so from Rosarito beach ? Or is this a different bajamar?

Heard about this Primo Tapio place.. the drives concern me because I will be living there with no car if I go.

For someone without a car who really wants to be eating the highest quality produce around, what beach front location would you recommend?

I want a really nice place with a beautiful view, but also need to have markets relatively close by. Let me know, thanks so much!

Yes, I was Referring to Bajamar, the Hotel, Golf Course and Gated Community Between Rosarito and Ensenada

The Farmers Market is mostly supplied, as claimed, by organic farmers from the Guadalupe Valley of Ensenada.

The weekend Sat/Sun market in Primo Tapia is very well served by the taxis and buses ("micros"), that is how the locals get around.

The twice monthly Fiesta/Pescador market is near Puerto Nuevo and is also and also well served by taxis and buses ("micros").

Bajamar is a lot farther south, maybe twenty miles or so, towards Ensenada.

So I'll probably be fine in Rosarito beach I guess. Not too far. Hear cab rides are inexpensive. I don't know much spanish which also bothers me a little. It's between cabo and rosarito right now. If I had a car I'd instantly choose Rosa.

If you have any advice for me knowing my situation, it would be much appreciated.

Thank you for the info.

Hi ckassin87

Here is a link to the official Rosarito Tourism website. There is a U.S. phone number to call listed on the site and you can talk to an English speaking customer service person.

They will help you with info about public transportation which is easily accessible and relatively inexpensive.

Go to: http://www.rosarito.org/eindex.htm (It has pages of information in English).

Don't worry about not knowing Spanish. Any attempt you make at it will be appreciated and the person you are communicating with will leap at the opportunity to practice their English with you.

Smiles, patience and body language will get you where you want to go.
