for me duty free stores are for when you are returning to USA - not leaving it.
sorry - don't get it.

I understand what you're saying, Mike, but the DF stores at the border are for Mexico entry traffic only, but.....I know you know that. Some others may not.

in 2004 we went to the DT free store in SY.
the "drill" was we paid then had to walk a path to cross into mexico [or maybe we were there?] and then had to do the total walk back into the US to "clear" in - what a ROYAL pain!
it took an hour or more and a very long boring walk carrying the goods.

i won't ever do that again to save a few bucks on booze.
we were on a lunch break from our office in bonita. some one came up with the idea and that we would also get some street tacos before we crossed back in.

hi Phil.

truth is no, i have been on an out of town job that just finished after TOO long a time and am now home again but having to prioritize the next income event, whatever that will be! haha.

last trip was a flying sams medicos trip in march of 2010 so its been 18 months. I didn't even get a customs sticker for my plane for 2011 and since the mexican annual multi-entry permit is calendar time even if i went today i'd have to buy another one the 1st trip south in 2012.

i have no plans to go south currently. USA CBP and effed up homeland security with all their new STUPID rules for private plane travel across borders out and back have made it a ROYAL pain in the arse....

also mexico recently jacked up all their avgas prices in some spots higher than in USA so those days of affordable gas south are gone too.
Mexican towered airport fees have gone whacky too.

we'll see what the future portends and sure i'd like to do some mexican flying again. Frankly i'd sell my plane today without a decent biz use write - off like i enjoyed the last year but the market is so soft small planes are worth nada. if you need to hook rides still the best source is posting on BPI, still plenty of guys going south all the time.

thx. send me your contact info that you would like avail on their message board and i'll post your want ad free. save you a $50 membership.

last year was very lucrative but you have to consider the scarifice of being gone from home 5 days a week and living out of a hotel suite. but i wrote off about 120 hours of business flying too.
this industry is feast or famine it seems, at least for me a small potatos guy.

so now we diet.... haha.
