beige

OK, so you finally screw up the courage to buy that awesome lot down Baja way. You plan and plan and scrape together the cash to get your dream house by the water built. Everything is wonderful. And then you go and paint it beige.

Beige!

Every track house in the USA is painted a shade of beige. The color of dirt or sand. Drive through any neighborhood. It makes you want to scream! The monotony of it all!:P

Bust out of that mold amigos! How about seeing some mango, limon, azul or bugambilla? Have some fun with it. Be brave. After all, you were brave enough to take the plunge and build down here when all your stateside friends and relatives thought you were nuts...... I'm just sayin'.....

A little bit of Baja color imagination is a good thing....until it goes too far. When tasteless paint jobs go from festive and optimistic to a rendition of a Chucky Cheese, the line has been crossed.
Just my opinion.....humble, as always. Thank you for listening. :D

Juan told me that the women get to choose the colours to paint the house....thus the lovely oranges, pinks, purples, lime green etc.

So getting into the spirit, we painted our Sunset Casita....welll....sunset colour....and I LOVE it!

my first palapa was violet and lime green. I loved it, the Mexicans shook their heads, the gringo women loved it, the men hated it. they, latter, thought all houses should be beige.

You may be confusing beige with adobe. If the house is traditional style (You know, flat roof, protruding vigas, then adobe is the only appropriate color. Contemporary/modern style; whatever floats your boat.) I'm remembering a house in the historic section of Wilson, NC. The owner wanted to paint it an "unapproved" color, but by statute the local "Historic Commission" restricted him to any of three "approved" colors. So he chose all three, dividing the house into three even sections, one third of the house to each color. I can't remember if it looked like the Mexican, Italian or Irish flag but you get the idea.

All my childhood I wanted to be older. Now I\'m older and this chitn sucks.

We used a book called "MexiColor" for some color inspiration. Our last house was "Casa Blanca" so we went the other direction this time. Hey- It's only paint!

I do love to see colorful homes and Wooosh's is gorgeous. And I love to visit friends' houses with their colorfully tiled and sinked and painted kitchens and bathrooms and patios. But I prefer to live in 'beige' house and kitchen with stainless appliances as I find it less stressfull visually for myself on an everyday basis.

Don't feel bad, it is well known that most men do not perceive color like women do, but a small segment of the ...hum...male population does...

OK, ok, "tract house" not track house. Hard to keep the spelling straight in a wine-induced rant. I think a track house might be something pulled behind the train in the old days. AKA caboose. But all the ones I ever saw were bright red!

Thanks for all the great color pics! Beautiful.
