big surf today at Ocean Beach
it's usually a good sign when the pier is closed...
news crews usually show up when it's big...
I digress...........
this guy spent 20 minutes paddling out...
lifeguards on the ready
after 45 minutes of watching this guy this was as close as he got to catching a wave. (note the waves breaking out beyond the pier)

The cliffs at low tide must have been great today. The north garbage right was my favorite break. Scratchin' for the horizon as the swell moved
through the kelp bed. Great longboard spot.
That's it, I'm going to start surfing again. Still got my boards.

Anybody know what the TJ slough is doing? One of the only places that can hold it.
Swamis's was 10+, with probably 50 riding. (According to my spies)
I guess it's still building.
Time to pull the pangas up another few feet before it gets dark!
Shari's place must be vibrating!!

pangas all pulled up all right! There were 7 kids at Pig Beach at sunset...and the swell is coming in like a freight train right now as the tide comes
up...waves smashing up the bank...over the rock in front here....the island reef is shining white as the waves break in the moonlight all the way
across...stunning....booooooming....around 11-12' and building...gonna be a noisy night all right!
should be some pismos washed up in a couple days.

Mavericks had big surf today and the locals are taking advantage of it. I'm not sure what's holding up the tournament.

Surf needs to get bigger.... waaaay bigger.
I think the waves at Mavericks opening ceremonies were only 12-14 feet.

Ken.... I noticed that your pier closed in the strong surf. A bit south of San Francisco we have a big cement pier which takes a lot of heavy surf
this time of year. I just love to go there and stand on the pier during the hours before it becomes necessary to close it. Those waves crashing into
pier make it like standing on an active volcano.
I'll skip voting on the burros and thank you for the great waves.

Igor.....agree and I was there!
Frank...you were ahead of me, while you were at Sunset Cliffs I was in Margaritas enjoying some huevos rancheros.
Nena..enjoy the pier on big days, but this day damaged some railing!

Nice photos---both of you! Hate to hear that the pier was damaged some---hope it is not serious.
Our waves at Imperial Beach were big, but not nearly that big. But today there were a number of surfers---will post a couple of pix later.
