Good info. I had the checkpopint north of Jesus Maria ask for my passport. Also, a morena soldier at the Ensenada checkpoint. She's from Veracruz and yummy  first time for both.

She is a Sergeant, and supervises a squad at the checkpoint .

Drove down to Loreto last week and was not asked for any paperwork. I normally drive down in my motorhome and almost always get boarded at every check point but this time I drove my Saturn Vue and never had to get out or open anything up.

I was asked for a passport at the Loreto checkpoint last March. The soldier with the clipboard took so long trying to copy the info down I politely took it from him and wrote it down for him. Then I gave them a coke and we griped about the p*inche viento which was hurling sand, gravel, chihuahuas and old semi tires at us. Nice guys, very friendly.

Must be age, but I always have every bit of paperwork
they could ever ask for, although back when that wasn't
the case. I've read posts here claiming, maybe rightfully
so, that Mex Soldiers can't ask for paperwork, out of
their jurisdiction. I would never give them LEVERAGE
over me for lack of paperwork

I've gotten the impression that they may ask for more ID if they have word to be on the look-out for a particular person, or vehicle... so they check more.

Or maybe it's boredom!

I just let them ask... answer as best as I can, and with a smile. Turns out to be a pleasant interruption for us both.
