Safari Park, San Diego

While I would rather travel far away to find these pictures, I do appreciate this Park as they are so very dedicated to trying to save so many endangered animals.

A few pics from our visit to the San Diego Safari Park with our family.

Just a majestic bird

A couple of birds having a little disagreement

Are there any animals as magnificent as the giraffes?

And the baby hiding by mom's long legs.

This is one very old rhino with a deformed horn. The plight of many rhinos is such as tragedy. The park has one rhino that is one of the only six still living. In one area of Africa, each black rhino has its own person armed guard. It is so very sad that they need such protection.

One of very favorite animals, the elephant. They are such amazing creatures --- so intelligent and as I read in one National Geographic article, it is not necessary to anthropomorphize these amazing creatures as they have so many traits that ARE similar to human traits.

A couple of nice butterflies. They are nice, but there are not nearly as many as in the reserve in Costa Rica---a place that is well worth a visit as is all of Costa Rica

OK, he is one handsome dude

But does that mean he can kick her when he chooses to do so?

And three pictures of my favorite bird. I have NO idea what this bird is, but while we ate lunch, I sure enjoyed watching him/her. He is a very large bird with lots of personality. and I would hope to hear from someone as to who he is. He has the hook on the end of his bill like a pelican.

And the two wildest animals of all --- my wonderful grandsons. The oldest one was looking at the landscape, and opps, up pops his younger brother.

Visiting this park is a way to have a very enjoyable day while supporting the efforts to save so many animals/

Yes Doc, it is a fun place for the kids----go early!

Oddjob ---- THANKS I looked it up and learned a lot about this beautiful huge bird.

Shoebill

The noise it makes is like two pieces of wood clacking---- it was really entertaining.
