By Ron Raposa

ROSARITO BEACH, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO---"This beachfront resort city 20 miles south of San Diego County will host the XXIII Binational Convention of the Sister Cities of Mexico and the United States from June 14 to 17.

"We expect about 200 people, including Sister City officials and mayors from throughout the U.S. and Mexico, as well as many others involved in this important international organization," said Jorge Villanueva, president of the Rosarito Sister Cities Committee.

"Several prestigious guest speakers from both nations will be featured," he added.

The XXIII Binational Convention of the Sister Cities Mexico and the United States will be an important forum to discuss international cooperation and plan for the future. It will include discussions on challenges, as well as success stories about sisterhood programs.

As well as promoting a spirit of international understanding, Sister Cities emphasizes activities that involve the donation of emergency response equipment, aid for orphanages and medical assistance for those in need, plus many more.

The event at the landmark Rosarito Beach Hotel is sponsored by the International Committee of the Sister Cities of Playas de Rosarito, the Rosarito city government and Baja state government.

"Sister Cities is a wonderful organization and we are honored to host this binational convention," said Hugo Torres, hotel owner and former Rosarito mayor. "The organization shows that the world is not comprised so much of unconnected nations but of sister cities."

Those who attend the convention can enjoy a satisfying mixture of work and play, of interesting conferences and beachfront sunsets. Members of Rosarito's 14,000-person expatiate community can purchase one- or two-day passes.

Baja Studios, where Titanic, Master & Commander and other blockbusters were filmed, is in Rosarito, and the conference will include an exciting presentation on the movie industry, including a major motion picture now being produced there.

Conference attendees can dine on traditional lobster dishes at world famous Puerto Nuevo plus visit the vineyards of the Guadalupe Valley, where the Mexican soap opera "Cuando me Enamoro" was filmed. Optional trips include the outlets and casinos in San Diego."
