Speakers Added to Bi-national Convention Of Sister Cities This June in Rosarito Beach

ROSARITO BEACH, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO--"U.S. Consul General Steven Kashkett and a prominent Hollywood figure will be among speakers at the XXIII Binational Convention of the Sister Cities of Mexico and the United States in this beach front city from June 14 to 17.

George Barks, president of the United State-Mexico Sister Cities Association, also will be among those attending and has been asked to give welcoming comments.

Rosarito was chosen as this year's host city at the group's 2011 convention in Puente de Ixtla Morelos State, Mexico; after several years of competing for the honor.

One convention presentation will be on Baja's film industry and a special representative from "All Is Lost," the Robert Redford movie being filmed at Rosarito's Baja Studios, will speak. The oceanfront facility also was the location for "Titanic" and "Master & Commander" and others.

Kashkett, head of the U.S. Consulate in Tijuana, was chosen to speak because, like Sister Cities, much of his work is focused on developing stronger relationships between nations.

"We expect Sister City officials and mayors from throughout the U.S. and Mexico, as well as many others involved in this important international organization," said Jorge Villanueva, president of the Rosarito Sister Cities Committee.

The XXIII Binational Convention of the Sister Cities Mexico and the United States will be an important forum to discuss international cooperation and plan for the future. It will include discussions on challenges, as well as success stories about sisterhood programs.

The event at the landmark Rosarito Beach Hotel is sponsored by the International Committee of the Sister Cities of Playas de Rosarito, the Rosarito city government through Mayor Javier Robles, and Baja state government through Governor Jose Osuna.

"Sister Cities is a wonderful organization and we are honored to host this binational convention," said Hugo Torres, hotel owner and former Rosarito mayor. "The organization shows that the world is not comprised so much of unconnected nations but of sister cities."

Those who attend the convention can enjoy a satisfying mixture of work and play, of interesting conferences and beach front sunsets. Members of Rosarito's expatriate community can purchase one- or two-day passes.

Conference attendees can dine on traditional lobster dishes at world famous Puerto Nuevo plus visit the vineyards of the Guadalupe Valley."
