WATCH OUT FOR RATTLERS
Seems to be a lot of Rattle Snake activity this year. Just heard my dog fussing about something and I looked out the door and she was staring down a
two footer.....right by the door. Worst part was, this guy didn't have a rattle.
NoNoNo....can't have that.

There are rattle-less rattlers in Coyote. Manuel killed one at the Villa 2 or 3 weeks ago - so they are making their way off Isla Carmen and so it
might be.

I know for a fact they can swim a couple of kilometers, so how much more can they go by sea is anyone's guess.

"Can a rattlesnake lose its rattle?
Yes. The rattle is made up of rings of shed skin - when the snake sheds, part of the old skin is retained on the tip of the tail, forming another
section of the rattle. These are quite brittle, and can be broken off - this is one reason why you cannot accurately judge the age of a rattler by the
size of its rattle.

I used to be a zookeeper, where I looked after numerous snakes, and have kept and studied them for years."

We were hiking around on Isla Catalina a number of years ago - really huge barrel cactus and other cool stuff there. I kept asking my wife - "did you
hear that?", and when she said "hear what?", I told her about the rattleless rattlesnakes that are endemic to the island. We ended the hike early.

Talking about rattlesnakes . . . got lots around the place in San Nicolas, but didn't figure to see many in Lopez - and just now one crawled out of a
dead palm and crossed the street!
Only scorpions we've seen here I think we brought with us from San Nic.

" . . . to put a Hoe, a Shovel on it about 6 Inches from its Head and press aganist the Ground. Then With your left hand grip the Snake . . ."
With 6 inches, can't the snake turn its head back to your hand? :-)
