Pets no longer allowed in cabin
Well we have been reading that airlines no longer allowing pets in cabin. We pay to put our very little dog under the seat. This is as June. So AA
,United, and others are NOT allowing even though we bought a round trip ticket. This is (they say)) a law in MX that has been on the books for years.
So in July looks like wee drive back to Houston from Cabo.
This is not good for Mexico in general

Too bad. It's going to be a long hot drive.
And lots of people travel with little dogs.
Never heard of this before.

That sucks but I think the main people affected by this will be little dog owners, not so much all of Mexico. I guess you could get service dog
status.

It is hard to sell the seeing eye chihuahua.....and I would rather fly with a cabin full of little dogs under the seat then crying kids..

Me too, I'm all for dogs flying in cabin. There's all kinds of service dogs even for stress disorders so any dog can qualify these days. I get what
your saying though. I have a medium size dog and I never would fly with her unless I was moving somewhere and there was no other way to get her there.
I think it would be scary for them to be stored in cargo

We have flown ALaska Air LAX-LTO-LAX with our four dogs several times and are doing so again in October. They are comfortable below—it is air
conditioned and pressurized the same as where passengers sit upstairs. For the few hours they spend below it beats days driving together in the car.
We do both. Better than being left behind with a dog sitter if you ask them!

Although this article does not have a date, it appears to be about 3 weeks old. Here is a updated article from June 7, 2012. Seems that all but
three airlines are now enforcing this "old" Mexican law from the 1950's.

I recently had 2 people translate and provide a synopsis of the Mexican government Directives that apply to the 'no pets in cabin' policy which the
airlines have just implemented. Both translators agreed on the basic gist of the document:
International Travel of Pets - Mexico has this compulsory Circular CO AV-07.8/07 which they have now started to enforce. It states that every licensee
or permittee who operates or intends to operate services to the public passenger transportation in Mexico must comply with the requirements of this
Compulsory Circular.
Aircraft operators must also comply with the requirements of this Compulsory Circular according to the type of operation and characteristics of their
aircraft. As I read this, this includes all flights in Mexico whether international or not.
It states that all pets traveling to Mexico effective immediately until further notice, all dogs and/or cats must travel in a kennel and be placed in
the aircraft cargo hold.
Also they are required to have a Health Certificate. The only exception in Mexico for a live animals in the passenger cabin is in the case of a
service animal, like a guide dog.
Travelers with three or more pets are subject to additional importation fees of approximately $1,600 pesos (approximately $150 USD) as mandated by the
SAGARPA (Secretary of Agriculture, Livestock Production, Rural Development, Fishery and Food).
The payment can be paid online or at a Mexican bank. Upon arrival with three or more pets, Customs will direct you to the cargo area where the
required commercial importation process takes place. The clearance may require a customs broker.
The bottom line is there's no point in petitioning the airlines; they are simply following Mexican federal law. As foreigners in Mexico, there are
limits to what we can do to try and influence the government on this policy, but we are investigating what, if anything, we can legally do.

Many of us are allergic to pets in confined quarters. YOUR need to bring your little lap-yapper shouldnt trump health concerns.
For the same reason that there are designated pet rooms in hotels or outright bans on pets in hotels, I welcome this decision.
The air, especially on an airliner, is already suspect. Diseases and dander just get recirculated.

Oh, so every single allergen just lines up in an orderly fashion, rises above everyone and moves from the front to the back, without going by anyone's
nose and mouth.
I stand corrected on the air circulation system but it's incredibly naive to think this solves the problem of allergens from pets in a liner.

I almost never catch a cold when on the ground-------conversely, I almost always catch a cold when flying commercially.
The "cabin air" is suspect, for sure. I little dab of ZYCAM in the old snoz sure helps, tho. (of course, I may never "taste" anything again)

P.S. I don't like rat dogs in airplane cabins or in purses in stores, restaurants or supermarkets. what compels people to take their rat dogs
everywhere? don't they know dogs are probably happier and less stressed if they stay at home in the back yard?

Tijuana to Merida, Yucatan, and Back Last Week
Hubby and his Great Dane service dog flew to Merida, Yucatan.
AeroMexico reserved two seats on the bulkhead and the dog had free passage.
The Dane wore his safety harness on takeoff and landing, sitting in his seat.
When they transited the Mexico City airport, their was a wheelchair waiting and he was taken by an AeroMexico employee over to the gate for his
connecting flight. He said that the attendant was going so fast that the dog had to run alongside to keep up.
