Hurricanes and animals
Seems like many hurricanes find me scrounging for food not for Lynda and I but for the animals.
In one nasty one the choppers dropped emergency rations for the villagers. Not being a Mexican, Lynda demanded I stay home, not go to the landing site
for a handout.
So I ended up trading all my warm beer for sugar from one of my neighbors so I could feed the hummers.
On this one, Paul, we had laid in plenty of dog food but I ran out of seed for the birds in my garden. After 4 days now a host of hungry sparrows is
raiding the dogs' bowls on the patio but the dry pellets are too big and I am reduced to crushing them up with a hammer (no molcajete).
I'll bet big money that many Nomads go out of their way when storms visit to protect and feed the critters.

First thing I do when stocking for a storm is hit the dog food, bird food and sugar aisle. But sometimes you just never have enough!
I did get the last loaf of bread in one of the 2 little stores open yesterday morning before Paul hit.
And there were no tortillas in town, so I was lucky I was looking for bread!

It gets kinda tight in our small house with our three dogs but what you gonna do, leave the babies out in the rain and wind. I dont think so.
As for the birds, there is so much for them to eat...bugs, new growth on plants, flowers for the hummingbirds, worms.....I never thought that they
might be hungry.
We do stock up on our chicken feed.

we saw hundreds of birds looking for worms in a part of town that only has water when it rains ..wish I had had a camera with me. It was an amazing
sight.
Rex, the perro, loved coming inside all day today til the skies cleared up. He lay in every single room til he chose his final napping spot !
