Day of the Dead
Tomorrow is Day of the Dead (dia de los muertos), does anybody know if city offices will be open tomorrow in Baja? Is this a holiday?

"On November 2nd is a day of rest, so that our employees have the opportunity to live with their families and take a day break to return to their
daily work next Monday," he said.
Leggs Vazquez asked the public to continue its proceedings on Monday in regular working hours for the public from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm.
Finally the state official guards assure that keep attention on those sectors that service their condition can not be closed entirely, as general
hospitals and some areas of PGJE, SSPE among others

Interesting. Just listened to Mexican teachers talk about how they are trying to teach the kids in school to honor this Nov. 2 holiday, as the
Mexican children are more into Halloween!!

I guess many people will be at the panteon tomorrow paying their respect to those who have left us. Families will be taking the favorite food &
drink to their departed loved ones. I hear beer is a favorite one!

Festival de Día de Muertos begins: This is a two-night evening festival Nov. 1-2 for families with a display of altars to the dead, a competition for
those dressed as Catrinas and Calaveras, traditional foods and entertainment on stage. It’s a huge family event, a great La Paz tradition, and it’s
free. The festival gets underway at about 6 p.m. and picks up speed during the evening at the Esplanada de la Unidad Cultural Prof. Jesús Castro
Agúndez, which is between Altamirano and Heroes de Independencia, and between Navarro and Legaspi (the same site as Teatro de la Ciudad). According
the the festival poster, the event is 18:30 to 22:00 both nights. On both nights you can view the entries in the festival competitions for posters and
altars and see the Catrinas and Calaveras. The entertainment lineup begins with la Banda de Música del Gobierno del Estado and participants in the
popular contest, Vivas las catrinas. At 19:00, there are performances by the ballet Cadet accompanied by the musical group La Cochi con Livaís. The
theatrical group Ollin, directed by Guillermina Sainz, performs the work “Tumbas, tumbas.” There will be music from Mexico City group, Patita de
Perro, entertainment for adults and children alike.

Here's something I found interesting about the day of the dead my wife told me. When she was a child her family was very poor and on the day of the
dead she would take a bucket go to the cemetery and work watering the flowers on graves for tips. Last year when she went to her families graves in
the cemetery a little girl was doing the same and reminded my wife so much of herself she gave the child a 50.00 tip.
