MUCH cheaper flights.

As some already know, I recently relocated from La Paz to the beautiful state of Washington to be near my daughter. This move necessitated temporarily leaving my Mexican wife and kids behind while we await the US immigration process.

My wife, who has a US visa, wanted to come up for a visit after the year-end holidays, so she checked into airfare ticket prices. We usually go with Alaska Airlines since they have non-stop flights between Los Cabos and Seattle. She told me they had round-trip tickets listed for $157 US, which was something we could afford, even though I haven't started working yet.

However, as I'm the owner of the credit card we use, I would have to make the reservations up here. That is when I found out a most curious thing. When I went online to the Alaska website, I couldn't find anything for the dates we had in mind for under $390 for the round trip. My wife insisted that she was coming up with the lower airfare, and so I gave her my credit card info over the phone so she could make the reservations.

Which she did. And guess what? It seems that if you make your Alaska Airline reservations from Mexico, you can get round-trip flights between Los Cabos and Seattle for under half-price.

Something seems terribly wrong here, but I'm not going to complain. Instead, I thought I'd pass that on to my fellow Nomads who might be thinking about making such trips in the future. If you have a contact in Mexico (or at least in La Paz) who is willing to make your reservations, you can get one hell of a good discount at the moment.

I assume taxes/airport security fees might be a reason.

How do they know where you're located? I assume you are doing this on-line. I guess the IP address would be in Mexico, but I have done it both from our Mexico house and our US house and get the same prices with Alaska. Tell me how you did that, I would love to get half price fares to Loreto.

As I stated above, my wife looked into the flight from our home in La Paz and I did likewise from a library in Washington State. We did this two days straight and each came up with the same different results. In fact, my wife had to make the reservation from the English-language format of Alaska, so I assume it is the same website, although I didn't have her send me the website address.

If I knew the secret, I'd be happy to share it with you, but it remains a mystery to me.

I doubt it since the website was in English in both cases, we paid in dollars, and the airports involved are the same, so one might assume the cost of such security would be the same.

Not according to her itinerary, which I haven't seen yet, but will have her send to me.

I'll check back tomorrow with more info, my time's about up on this socialist computer at the public library in Washington.

That's the beauty of the system when the Dems are running the show, David. You just set yourself out on your porch, with your feet propped up while chomping on a stogie, and soon enough a gov'ment agent will show up with a big old check fer ya. And if ya hide that there Tacoma ya gotcha, they'll even throw in a brand spankin' new Cadillac for ya to git around in so ya don't have ta dirty yer perty little feet. Don't know why anyone would ever vote Republican.

Just got the flight information from my wife, and yes, indeed, it was too good to be true. She mistakenly booked a flight out of San Jose, CALIFORNIA, not San Jose del Cabo.

Damn, I knew I should have started teaching her English before now:lol:

Like flights from ASUNCIÓN

CHILE, that is...

Thanks (sadly at your expense) for a morning chuckle. Hope you can make things work. Separation is a b-tch. Both my grand daughters were in tears begging me to "come home"

While I know the way to San Jose, it's obvious that my wife is just learning it:lol:.

But since she got her hopes up with the cheap flight, now I don't have the heart to disappoint her so I'm on the hook for the additional airfare.

Good thing that gov'ment agent is scheduled to come to my porch any day now with that big fat check, that should make things easier.

Now, now, be nice, Howard. While the finer nuances of San Jose, CA and San Jose del CAbo might have escaped her notice in English, I'm sure she'd notice the difference between San Jose and Seattle, to say nothing of having to reach Costa Rica to start the journey.
