Now I Know Why the Chicken(s) Crossed the Road
Today, we went to our little town to pick up some items from the store.
When I got out of the car, I saw a guy come around a corner across the street from me, swinging a plastic bucket and calling (I swear), "Kittie,
kittie."
Suddenly, the underbrush near me erupted and two roosters and several hens came out running towards him and then disappeared into the backyard of the
house where he was was standing.
He saw me staring and winked and then carried the bucket to the back to feed the chickens.

I saw chickens crossing the road yesterday followed closely by my new Baja dog....that might explain why she had a rope tied around her neck when I
found her....

"kee kiti kee" is the Mexican call for chickens.
Learned this on a ranch out of Mazatlan in the 70's.

Thirty years ago I knew an old woman on the mainland who called her piglets with a sing-song, "Vengase! Vengase! Vengase!"
It was so fun to watch those little rolly polly guys come squeeling, rumble tumble.
She also kept a chicken in her house tied to the leg of her bed.
This was while the little baby chicks were tiny and vulnerable to the outdoors
(protected from getting run over by a thundering herd of piglets, I assume).
