XM Satellite radio

Looking for info on XM Satellite radio?.. does anyone know how far south the signal goes? Any info before I purchase one would be helpful?

Thanks!

XM radio

Best purchase we've made in many a year. We came down middle of Oct. via Mexicali to Trinidad, then one way dirt road out of Santa Maria to south of San Vincente. We listened to XM all the way, with the vehicle access. As far as Loreto, can't remember if we had bad reception or not. Just clear, wonderful music & talk stations & news & book stories, etc. Those that haven't looked into it are missing the boat. Oh yes. And all the sports events on it also. Plan on taking it to Cabo for two weeks shortly, and will be enjoying it there also.

My only concern w/XM or Sirius

is if you look at the financial reports on both companies they have yet to get close to anything resembling a profit. I'd hate to invest and have them fold.

I'm not sure what investment you are making, but XM came in my Chevy Silverado. I pay $120 or something per year to renew the subscription. Considering how much I hate commercials, I think I already got my money's worth and I have only had the truck for 4 months! Its that good.

If XM filed chapter 11 tomorrow I would say it was worth it. The reception is unreal and I think they have almost 200 channels.

One of the best investments I have made.

Listened to it today in Mazatlan - just as clear as San Felipe or for that matter San Diego.

Best thing I've done - I've had it about 2 years now and just keeps getting better.

They also have a online feed if you want to stream it on your computer - now I understand three days streaming for free to see if you like it..

I don't think XM is going 'belly up'...

XM has launched a marine sat weather service that cost's more than the terrestrial vehicle service...if it goes over with the boating crowd, it will sure help their 'bottom line'.

XM charges $9.99/month, or if you sign on with add'l units (family plan), it's 6.99/month per each. Not bad, you can sign on for a buddy and get $3 bucks off!

I use mine all the time - it's sure great when traveling...I also use it when camping...I have a big deep cycle battery in my camp trailer and it'll run the XM for weeks! We hardly use CD's any more, or our mp3's! Also, you could hook your XM through your stereo or PC and record lots of CD music and mp3 formated CDs for hours and hours of stuff!

I also use the home unit with it's own antenna out in the back yard...run it through a big stereo and speakers...our neighbors 'love us' on party weekends!

As stated above it works way down Baja's length, we get full reception when going to Mulege area...where we hook it up to a small stereo in the palapa and run it through the inverter...

Can you tell, we're hooked! All the music channels have NO commercials...sweet ;)

Check out www.xmradio.com to get all the details - they have special events every day, new albums, etc...

You can keep in touch and up to date with CNN, FOX, ABC, etc. The FOX News channel is an audio feed of their TV Cable programing...so you can catch all your favorite 'talking heads' when you're on the road!

Enjoy...highly reccommended...:smug:

I'd be more worried about Sirius going belly-up than XM......XM's subscription quotas are being filled and Sirius has to fork out millions for Howard Stern.

Sorry David, you can't get your 'Rush' with XM Radio...However,

on the America Right channel they have daily shows with:
Bill Bennett
Glenn Beck
Matt Drudge
Michael Reagan
Michael Savage

to be somewhat 'fair & balanced'....they have an American Left channel too, with such luminaries as;
The O'Franken (Al) Factor
Alan Colmes

Of course the Fox News Channel I mentioned above has all their regulars, O'Reilly; Hannity & Colmes, Brit Hume, Tony Snow, etc....

Sean Hannity and Rush's radio shows aren't aired (beamed) on XM Radio...There's lots others to bombard you though....:light:

Get the entire lineup at www.XMradio.com

Back in the '70's I listened to shortwave and dropped in on Radio Moscow and Radio Peking. The funny thing is, they weren't as anti-American as are the people that speak for the Democrats, here in America (Franken, Moore, Whoopie)!

Thanks to all!!!!!!

My sister in San Diego picked it up for me yesterday because it was on sell?.. got the latest receiver and both the home and car cradle?. I have the first appointment for installation in the Beast on Friday morning (day after thanksgiving) then heading back south from there?. And the best thing is, she added me to her plan so it?s only 6.99 a month?. Now maybe next season I can get back to paying attention to my favorite?.Nascar?.

How much does the unit cost? I have a Pioneer stereo in the truck and it says it is XM ready. I am very interested.

irock & XM

I purchased my XM unit in Nov 2002. We live in San Felipe. Have used it all the way to Cabo and back. I was talking to someone who travels from Mexico City to central BC, Canada, and it works in both places.

I have used both the old and new irock FM transmitter (29.95 at electronics stores). The battery unit broadcasts up to 300 feet. On the way to Cabo I had a friend in front and back, both cars picked it up. I have a cradle in the car and one in the garage. The new irock unit I bought has a 12v plug so I don't have to keep buying AAA batteries. It broadcasts up to 400+ feet. All my neighbors here love it.

I don't think XM is going belly up as they just announced next season they will have MLB (may be premium though).

It is one of the best purchases I have ever made, yep, right up there with joining geocaching.com or buying GSAK for transfer of geocache data!!!
