USA WINS CONCACAF GOLD CUP

The USA just won over Panama, 1-0, in the finals for the Copa Oro. [that's futbol/soccer for those who don't follow such things] They were the scoring monster with twelve total goals for the tournament and will be one to watch next year in the World Cup hosted by Brazil.
They really looked good.

I really tried to like that sport during the last World Cup. Followed it on TV for several rounds. Spain ends up scoring a total of of eight goals in seven games............AND WINS THE WORLD CUP! What a powerhouse!!!

I really dont like a game where one stinkin' score wins it so often. Bad calls by the officials become too important.

With a over 300 mil population, and with soccer becoming ever more popular, there is no reason for the US not to dominate this competition. Only Mexico should have to be considered true competition.
Would the US be included in the South America leagues, they would be annihilated in short order.

Are we talking the popularity of professional soccer in the US or just the popularity of playing soccer, in general?

Certainly there are more young people playing soccer in the US than ever before.

But it isnt translating into a professional career, the way other sports do. It's more of an athletic hobby in grade schools and high schools for kids who dont have the hand-eye coordination or physique for sports like baseball, football or basketball. TV ratings on soccer in the US are still REALLY low, compared to the Big Three sports.

I'm having trouble coming up with the name of the professional soccer league in the US that has teams in multiple cities in the US. Is there one, anymore?

It's the REST of the world's favorite sport............and I think the average American sports fan is fine with that.

Hook, with all due respect, MLS has been growing steadily.

That's right, the MLS.

Looks like attendance DECLINED, on average, at the majority of MLS franchises this year. It appears that attendance, overall, was actually down this year.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Major_League_Soccer_attendance

No wonder there was no expansion.

Heck, what do I know about American sports these days, anyway.............I've been away too long.
