Loreto to SJD

Does anyone know how long it takes to get to San Jose del Cabo from Loreto bt car ?

Also, are there a couple of worth while stops along the way for lunch ?

Thanks

Loreto to Constituction - 2 hours.
Constituction to La Paz - 2 hours.
La Paz to San Jose del Cabo about 2 1/2 to 3 hours.

Have lunch in El Triunfo at:

There is a good Birria restaurant on the east side of the highway near the south end of Ciudad Constitution that we have always liked. I can't remember the name. Cafe El Triunfo's a good call also, but you'll be pretty hungry by the time you get there from Loreto. I think it's probably about a 6-7 hour drive from Loreto to SJ.

Did the drive about a year ago yes figure 7-8 hours and that's not stopping too much. El Triunfo's is kind of out of the way since you'd have to head back south on hwy.1 assuming your coming from Todos, but it is an awesome place.
Get through Constituction asap if possible.

Is there a reason to not stop in Constitution ?

I was thinking that the new hwy 19 might be faster than going over the mountains on hwy 1.

Don't recall any posts recently, but Constitution in
the past has been known for bogus traffic stops
for DWG, Driving While Gringo. I'm a slow driver
but seem to average just under 50 mi. covered
in an hr., driving a camper, I suppose a car would
be a bit quicker

It probably would be a bit faster to take 19, with the added bonus of being able to check out Todos Santos and to stop at Costco for supplies.

Hwy. 19 is a faster way to Los Cabos from La Paz... Hwy. 1 is a much more scenic choice, but longer drive time.

I usually go down one side and return the other so as not to miss anything possibly new and new vistas.

Drove from Loreto to Los Barriles yesterday - 4 hours to La Paz, 1 1/2 hours to LB. It is about and hour & a quarter to San Jose from LB. Of course, you can add lots of time to the trip with a few select slow trucks in the right, or wrong, places.

I am with Mula on the route you should take and that way next time you will know which way you would like to go.

Now for the important stuff, food! Approximately 7 or so miles South of Loreto on highway #1 you will come to a restaurant called Vista del Mar. We call it the clam shack and you really can't miss it. Incredible stuffed clams and fish, caught right out front. Million $ view and very inexpensive. I think the stuffed clams (my favorite) run around $6-$7.

Great food, cheap prices and a view you will not soon forget.
Take your time on the drive and stop and smell the roses.

The Clam Shack is located at 25 52.674 N 11 20.553 W for the GPS bunch. The clam plate is huge, usually chocolates, and just so good.

Your West longitude is missing one number... unless it is in the Western Sahara...

This looks great, however: 25 52.674 N 111 20.553 W

This was taken on a trip in 2005.
I can still remember eating the Almeja Rancheros.

Thanks everyone !

I have drove from La Paz to Cabo a few times and did like the drive over the mountains and also liked the Pacific side. Its been a few years since we have been down in the baja area.

I like the ranchero style clams and the fish tacos, Bonnie likes the gratinadas clams, but anything they make is good. Vista Al Mar is our usual stop after kayaking and our first when getting to Loreto, well worth the drive.
