Road conditions after and off-road race

Just got back from a trip around BCS. Looks like there is an annual race from Los Barriles to Todo Santos, that uses the Naranja Road. This trip we only had a 2WD SUV, it was late in the day to start, and the race teams connived us the road would be to rough.

We drove the road a few years ago in December, with no issues.

The biggest contributor to adverse road conditions seems to be rain/water run off. All else being equal, does an off-road race significantly tear up a road, and should be considered when planning a trip?

Normally speaking the road will be worse after a race. I never worry about the road whether it had a race or not. The only road I usually stay away from is the old Puertecitos road south of San Felipe. It is all beat up and whooped out from racing.

Can only comment on the road from where the race course hit the paved road from La Ribera and towards Cabo Pulmo. Where the road makes turns there were significant ruts and loose rocks. The straighter sections still had more loose rocks than normal but not torn up very badly. In the past the Los Cabos Municipio District took their sweet time in putting a motor grader on the road to smooth things out, sometimes up to a month. HOWEVER, que milagro, a grader was out 3 or 4 days after the race. Don't know how far south of Cabo Pulmo the road is/was graded. Just glad to see some repairs being made. Now if they would just start fixing the potholes on the paved road, sigh!
