Port Townsend to Port Alexander AK By Sea

Hitched a ride on the Caribou

We were loaded with 10,000 lbs. of supplies for the Laughing Raven Lodge in Port Alexander AK on Baranof Island

Crossing the Strait of San Juan de Fuca stabilizers deployed to smooth out the ride.

There was three of us aboard plus Magpie.

Lots of beautiful scenery

Dall porpoise playing in the bow wake.

Just off Prince Rupert before crossing Dixon Entrance

Point Decision lighthouse just before entering Chatham Strait.

I worked a summer (1982) hippie hand trolling for coho salmon out of Port Alexander. Very quiet!

Not my boat, just crewed up to PA where I'll spend the next few months fishing and working.

Here's a few more:

Lots of log barges.

Waited out a gale for a few hours behind Deer Island near Queen Charlotte Strait.

Queen Charlotte Strait dead ahead.

The crab lights were great for spotting the numerous floating logs.

Wheel watch.

View from the pilot house.

There were a lot more people here in 82' than there is now. PA has quite a history, at one time there were several hundred residents, I think now they are down to 35, mostly seasonal residents.

I recognize that dog!! It is mean to other dogs and is locked away when guests arrive!! Now, Bartolo is a sweetie and welcomes visitors readily as does their owners.
